Chichibu Distillery is a young distillery and a rising star in Japan's whisky scene. The distillery was founded in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto (pictured above), who founded Venture whisky and Ichiro's Malt brands, and successfully packaged and operated the family's closed distillery, Hanyu, which became an instant hit, and went on to gain an international reputation for the high-quality whisky produced by his own Chichibu Distillery. Founded in 1999, The Whisky Exchange (TWE) is now the world's largest online liquor sales portal, selling whiskey and wine and other alcohol products including cognac, Armagnac, rum, tequila and vodka. In 2021, it was acquired by Pernod Ricard Group, a world-renowned wine group. Pernod Ricard acquires the world's largest whisky e-commerce company.
The annual London Whisky Show (WS), hosted by TWE, has been going on for 14 years. Every year since 2018, WS has collaborated with Chichibu to release a WS Special Edition whisky: Chichibu London Edition (CLE), and there have been five versions of the whisky since then.
During WS 2023, TWE once again teamed up with Chichibu to launch the 2023 WS Special Edition Whisky, also known as CLE 2023. CLE 2023 is a blend of raw wines matured in bourbon barrels and red wine barrels, aged between 5 and 9 years, with an alcohol content of 51.5% ABV, a capacity of 700ml, and a bottle size of 1,949 bottles.
However, during WS 2023, TWE only released CLE 2023. It wasn't until nearly a year later, on September 13, 2024, that CLE 2023 was officially released on TWE. CLE 2023 is currently only available on TWE's official website, with an official price of £199, or about 1,850 RMB at the current exchange rate.
