Italy 2024 two-wheeled market: made in China that continues to conquer the city

At the beginning of September, Italy ANCMA (Associazione Nazionale Ciclo Motociclo Accessori, Italy National Association of Motorcycle Accessories) released the local registration figures for new cars (with a displacement of more than 50 cc) from January to August 2024: the total number of new car registrations in the first eight months of this year was 259963 (including 120854 cycling and 139109 pedals), compared to the same period last year 245,140 (including 111911 cycling and 133229 pedals), an increase of about 6.05% (of which the increase of cycling was about 7.99% and the growth of scooters was about 4.41%).

According to the new data, the top 20 models with the best new car registrations (cumulative registrations over eight months) in the Italy market in the first eight months of the year are as follows:

In the top 20 above, except for the Benelli TRK702/702X in sixth place, the BMW R1300 GS in twelfth place, and the Honda CRF1100L in 19th place, all three models are pedals.

As of September 11, MotorCycles Data (MCD), which focuses on new car registration data in motorcycle markets around the world, released the following data:

1. From January to August this year, the cumulative number of new cars (including mopeds with a displacement of less than 50 cc) registered in the Italy market was 272673, an increase of about 5.2% over the same period last year, Italy it is also the largest motorcycle market in Western Europe;

2. Registration in July increased by about 8.4%, but decreased by about 2.5% in August;

3. Despite the upward trend of the overall two-wheeled market, the total number of new car registrations of electric vehicles decreased sharply by about 27.3% over the same period last year;

4. In the first eight months of the year, strong brands in the Italy market included QJ Motor (up about 1988% over the same period last year), Voge Infinite Locomotive (up about 89.7% over the same period last year), Zontes (up about 52.8% over the same period last year), Kawasaki (up about 37% over the same period last year), Kymco (up about 19.8% over the same period last year) and Suzuki (up about 19.8% over the same period last year). 15.4%);

5. In recent years, the Italy two-wheeled market has become an ideal entry point for many "newcomers" seeking to gain a foothold in Europe, from several new brands such as Royal Enfield, CFMoto Spring Breeze and Voge Wuji, as well as revival brands such as Benelli and Moto Morini, already launching their business in Europe, with a focus on maximizing market share (first) in Italy and then expanding to other European countries/ regional markets;

5. In 2023, in terms of brand market share, the top three are Honda (down about 2.7% from 2022), Piaggio Piaggio (down about 1.3% from 2022), and Yamaha (up about 12.1% from 2022). In fourth place is Kymco (up about 1.1% from 2022), in fifth is SYM (up about 15.8% from 2022), in sixth is BMW Motorrad (up about 1.7% from 2022), in eighth is Benelli (down about 9.4% from 2022) and in ninth is Ducati (down about 2.3% from 2022).
