League of Legends North America's most popular streamer, Tyler "Tyler1" Steinkamp, said during a syndicated livestream of the LCS playoffs that he was excited about the "crazy" new twists coming to League of Legends in 2025.
Although Riot Games' game director Liu, who predicted earlier this year that the game would be "permanent" in 2025, Riot Games has struggled to control what players can expect from next season. Meddler, the head of League of Legends Game Studios, tried to temper the remarks in August.
"I think the phrase 'change League of Legends forever' may be a bit exaggerated," Meddler said at the time on the Reddy forum, saying that he didn't think the 2025 changes would upend League of Legends, but it was a relatively large game change, and they were still very happy with the direction of the current game change.
However, Tyler1's speech this time once again ignited people's expectations for 2025. The League of Legends streamer revealed during the LCS co-livestream that he spoke with Riot's development team and is looking forward to the upcoming changes to the game in 2025.
"It's going to get really crazy...... Over the years, I've met face-to-face with many of the Riot team members. But this time, for the first time, I really felt their enthusiasm," he says.
Tyler1 explained that he had long thought that the League of Legends development team would be led by some "old-school" people and wouldn't make too many radical game changes, but now he realizes that the company has injected fresh blood. He believes these new members are passionate about changing the game and making League of Legends more fun.
Pressed by viewers, he claimed that the people he spoke to were more excited and nervous than ever before when discussing the upcoming changes.
"They're bringing in new talent who look at the game differently and want to expand it beyond what we know it to be," Tyler1 said. However, since these streamers have signed non-disclosure agreements, they can't casually reveal the specific changes in 2025, and players will have to wait patiently for some time.
It's unclear whether this means that speculation-based changes like a new client update, a major system update, or the introduction of a voice chat feature will be part of the new changes that will be revealed. Tyler1 did not disclose any specific details during the livestream, as he stated that he was bound by a non-disclosure agreement and would only reveal the information when the time was right.
Riot Games has promised a major overhaul of almost all of the game's gear in Update 14.19, and judging by the massive amount of equipment tweaks on the test server today, League of Legends has changed dramatically. The changes to the third stage of the S14 season are also paving the way for the S15 preseason, which means that the developers have already started to work on some major innovations for 2025.
However, the well-known streamer's strong recommendation is undoubtedly a positive sign for what players should be looking forward to in 2025. Tyler1 is known for his criticism of the many changes Riot Games has made to League of Legends over the years, and he has repeatedly criticized the designers for not being aggressive, so this endorsement of him is significant.
But we won't have to wait until 2025 to find out all the changes to League of Legends, because in September and November, Riot Games will release its latest developer report revealing some of the changes to the S15 season. Riot Games should be launching the S15 Preseason on the North American beta server before the Christmas break, and we'll know most of the changes if we wait another three months.
