M/V SOUNION UPDATE: MV SOUNION HAS BEEN ON FIRE SINCE AUGUST 23. EUNAFOR ASPIDES FORCES, PASSING THROUGH THE AREA, REPORTED FIRES IN AT LEAST 5 PLACES ON THE SHIP'S OWNER'S DECK. It is estimated that these fires occurred around the hatches of the ship's fuel tanks. In addition, part of the superstructure was on fire. So far, there are no obvious signs of an oil spill. The ship remains moored in the same position in international waters. All ships in the area must be extremely cautious, as the MV SOUNION is both a navigational hazard and an imminent environmental hazard.
