I wanted to get rid of the "glasses family", but after the femtosecond laser surgery, my eyes were infected with viral keratitis, and my vision deteriorated sharply.
On January 26 this year, Amin (pseudonym) underwent a femtosecond laser surgery for both eyes at a Beijing Fenglian Jiayue Lige Eye Clinic (hereinafter referred to as Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology).
One week after the operation, she changed her eye medicine under the guidance of the hospital's customer service, and her eyes had a "pinprick-like" pain.

Amin said that after using up the eye medicine according to the hospital's "postoperative medication tips", he returned to Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology for a re-examination one month after the operation, and was diagnosed with viral keratitis in his right eye. A few days later, his left eye was also confirmed to be infected.
After that, Amin approached Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology to investigate the cause of viral keratitis in both eyes and ensure his follow-up treatment. However, the hospital believed that the reLEx surgery and diagnosis and treatment activities carried out by it were in line with the norms, and refused to negotiate with him.
The relevant person in charge of United Lige (Beijing) Medical Beauty Investment Chain Group Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as United Lige Group), which holds Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology, said in an interview with Red Star News that after internal self-examination, the relevant situation was shown to the patient in the form of PPT, and it was believed that the patient's infection with viral keratitis had nothing to do with his diagnosis and treatment process.
In July this year, Amin took Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology to court. On July 17, the case passed the preliminary trial of the Chaoyang District People's Court in Beijing.
Patient:
Pain like a pinprick in the eye drops after femtosecond surgery
Viral keratitis was diagnosed one month after surgery
Amin, who works in law, originally had myopia of 400 degrees in his left eye and 675 degrees in his right eye. In order to take off her glasses, in January this year, she hung up the number of a well-known corneal disease and refractive surgery expert in the industry and came to the ophthalmology department of a famous tertiary hospital in Beijing for treatment.
After all the examinations, the doctor gave Amin a recommendation that she was suitable for ReLEx laser surgery.
Amin told Red Star News that at that time, the tertiary hospital needed to queue up for femtosecond surgery, and after learning that the specialist was also operating at Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology and did not have to queue, he consulted the expert. This expert did not recommend Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology, but only told her that there was no difference between the two sides of the operation, and the equipment was the same, so she could choose by herself.
"Because it was almost the Chinese New Year, I thought about getting the surgery done as soon as possible so that I could take off my glasses and go home for the New Year." So, Amin contacted Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology, and on January 9, 2024, a customer service named "Chenchen" added her WeChat to connect with her about the operation.
On January 26, Amin was operated by a well-known expert who was treated in a tertiary hospital, and underwent a full femtosecond laser surgery for both eyes at Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology.
On the second day after the operation, Amin came to the Ophthalmology Department of Jiayue Lige for a follow-up, and the results of the examination were "1.0" in the right eye and "1.0-" in the left eye, and there was no obvious abnormality in the corneal incision and interlayer.
On January 28, Amin noticed that his eyes were a little swollen in the morning, and his right eye had some grinding sensation, accompanied by a low-grade fever. She consulted customer service about this, whether the fever was caused by surgery, and whether she could take antibiotics or anti-inflammatory drugs? The customer service said that it was okay to take medicine normally.
On February 2, one week after the operation, Amin followed the guidance of the customer service of Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology and went for a follow-up examination in the ophthalmology department of a hospital near the unit. She sent the test results of "corneal edema, visual acuity is 1.0 in the right eye and 1.2 in the left eye" to the customer service, and the customer service feedback is that with normal medication, the corneal edema will disappear with moderate use of the eye. On the same day, Amin also reported to the customer service that the "Dianbishu" eye drops used were painful, and the customer service replied that if it was "transient" and the pain was irritating, it was actually okay.
On the same day, the customer service also reminded Amin that the "Dianbishu" eye drops were ordered for one week, and the second week was replaced with an eye drop called "Fluoride Meitong".
The chat records provided by Amin and the customer service show that on February 5, Amin sent a message to the customer service Chenchen, reflecting that he had changed to "Fluorine Meitong" this week, and he didn't feel it at first. After dozens of seconds, my eyes hurt like pins and needles, and I kept crying. In this regard, Chenchen replied to Amin, and the pain could be relieved after a while. And explain that because the eye medicine contains some hormones and anti-inflammatory ingredients, there will be some discomfort after ordering.
After that, Amin returned to his hometown for the Spring Festival, during which he still reported eye discomfort in the communication with customer service. However, due to the difficulty of re-examination during the Spring Festival, she still took the medicine according to the doctor's instructions.
One month after the surgery, Amin was diagnosed with viral keratitis
On February 26, one month after the operation, Amin returned to Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology for a follow-up examination and was diagnosed with viral keratitis in her right eye.
After that, Amin contacted the well-known specialist who performed the surgery on her to inform her of the viral infection of the cornea of her right eye, and the specialist made an appointment for her to receive a doctor.
According to the postoperative follow-up records, on March 8, Amin's viral keratitis spread to both eyes. On March 11, 14, 25 and 27, Amin went to the hospital for follow-up. At the last re-examination, his visual acuity had dropped to "0.7" in his right eye and "0.4-" in his left eye.
Chief Surgeon:
There was no problem with the procedure and post-operative medication
The virus itself was not brought about by femtosecond surgery
According to public information, viral keratitis is an inflammation of the cornea caused by the infection of the cornea by a viral pathogen.
He is a well-known expert in the chief surgeon of Amin femtosecond laser surgery, and has mentioned in the "Clinical Characteristics and Diagnosis and Treatment Thinking of Herpes Simplex Virus Keratitis" published in the comprehensive academic journal "Ophthalmology" of ophthalmology that at present, herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus and adenovirus are the main sources of infection in clinical eye viral infectious diseases. Among them, herpes simplex virus keratitis is the most common, and its prevalence has increased significantly in recent years.
"There is no cure for viral keratitis, and it has been recurring again and again for several months." Amin told Red Star News that she now often feels eye discomfort, photophobia, and tears, which seriously affects her normal work and life.
In April this year, Red Star News accompanied Amin to Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology for a follow-up when the above-mentioned well-known experts were on the visit.
Why did Amin get viral keratitis in both eyes after femtosecond laser surgery? The well-known expert said that there are various viruses in the daily life environment, and the herpes simplex virus coexists with people, and once infected, it may accompany it for a lifetime, and it is uncertain when it will occur, but the virus itself is not brought about by femtosecond surgery, and it will not cause viral infection due to surgery.
Regarding the stinging pain caused by Amin's postoperative use of "Fluorometong" eye drops, the above-mentioned experts said that "Fluoromeitong" hormone eye drops are routine drugs after femtosecond laser surgery, and few people have allergic reactions such as eye redness, itching, and swelling. The decision to discontinue the drug depends on the severity of the patient's feedback, as well as the doctor's judgment.
The above-mentioned experts said that after carefully reviewing Amin's medical records, they believed that there was no problem with the entire surgical process and postoperative medication. However, the expert does not deny that viral keratitis may be complicated by femtosecond surgery or induced by surgery, in addition to weak resistance, agitation, anxiety, nervousness, staying up late, etc. may become triggers. In addition, she mentioned that there are occasional cases of viral keratitis after a large number of femtosecond laser surgeries every year.
The reporter noted that the expert had mentioned in his published paper that herpes simplex virus (HSV) is very contagious to humans, and the positive rate of HSV-1 seroantibodies in the population is 70%. Nonspecific stimuli, such as colds, bacterial or viral infections, and the use of corticosteroids, can provoke viral activation of infection.
After being diagnosed with viral keratitis, Amin underwent tests and showed that he was positive for herpes simplex virus type 1 IgG antibodies.
As mentioned in the above paper, herpes simplex virus keratitis is characterized by lifelong recurrence.
An ophthalmologist from another tertiary hospital told the Red Star News reporter that viral keratitis is characterized by easy recurrence. Whenever the resistance weakens, there is a possibility of recurrence.
Does the customer service have the expertise to guide the patient through medication?

After recurrent attacks of viral keratitis in both eyes, Amin approached Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology to investigate the cause of viral keratitis in both eyes and ensure follow-up treatment.
After repeated communication, the matter was investigated by the director of the medical department and the director of the legal department of the United Lige Group, which holds the control of Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology.
On April 16 this year, the relevant personnel of United Lige Group informed Amin of the investigation at Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology. According to the investigation, Jiayue Lige has complete ophthalmology licenses, and the doctors who operated on Amin have physician qualification certificates and physician practice certificates, and the "multi-site practice" has been filed and registered by relevant departments, and the diagnosis and treatment process is in line with the norms. Amin's viral keratitis is unrelated to his surgery and treatment.
Red Star News noticed that at the scene of the investigation briefing, Amin told a detail. "Later, when I was re-examined, the expert who operated on me thought that I was extremely sensitive to the glucocorticoid 'fluoromeitong', and in order to prevent the deterioration of the condition, the expert stopped all hormone drugs, and based on the need for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory in my eyes, he prescribed tobramycin eye drops that did not contain hormones, and the actual drug name was 'Tobaishi'."
"Because I didn't understand at the time, I asked Dr. Jiayue, who was present at the time, which medicine it was, and the doctor brought me a box of tobramycin dexamethasone eye drops containing hormones, the name of the medicine was 'Dian Bishu', and told me that this was it, just take a photo and go home and buy it myself." Amin recalled, because she knew that "Dianbishu" would hurt after taking the medicine, she was more worried about whether it was taken by mistake after listening to it, and asked the expert again to confirm that it was "Tobaishi".
At the scene, the director of the legal department of United Lige Group said that he would ask the doctor who took the wrong medicine to apologize to Amin. However, from the beginning to the end, the hospital believed that Amin's viral keratitis infection had nothing to do with his diagnosis and treatment process, rejected Amin's request to return the diagnosis and treatment fee and organize expert consultation, and said that it hoped that Amin would go through legal procedures to resolve the dispute.
At that time, Amin also mentioned on the spot that when he was in Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology Department, he heard from the medical staff that there were other patients who had similar cases of viral keratitis caused by femtosecond surgery. She said that she hoped that the hospital would publish cases dealing with similar situations for reference.
In this regard, the medical director of United Lige Group admitted that there are indeed patients who have experienced the above conditions, but there are no disputes due to viral keratitis.
So, does the customer service have the professional knowledge and skills to guide the patient through medication?
In this regard, the relevant personnel of United Lige Group and Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology told Red Star News that the customer service will have an entry assessment and multiple annual trainings to ensure that it can understand the meaning of doctors and the statements of patients in response to some common clinical feedback. They admit that the customer service does not have the qualifications of doctors, and if the patient reports a common and common problem, the customer service will ask for reassurance first, but if the patient complains of discomfort two or three times or repeatedly, the customer service is obliged to report.
At present, Amin has applied for a judicial appraisal, asking a third-party professional organization to confirm whether Jiayue Lige Ophthalmology's diagnosis and treatment is at fault, and waiting for the court to hear it.
