Optics and module maker Young Optics reported a net profit of NT$115 million (US$3.71 million) or NT$1.01 per share for the third quarter of 2018.

Total net profit for the first three quarters of 2018 was NT$173 million or NT$1.51 per share, and revenue was NT$4.868 billion.

Gross margin for the third quarter was 20.7%, up 1.7 percentage points sequentially and 3.1 percentage points year-on-year. In the first nine months of 2018, the gross profit margin was 20.1%, an increase of 2.1 percentage points year-on-year.

According to the company's statement, revenue in the third quarter was NT$2.061 billion, up 28% sequentially and 73% year-on-year, which was expected, mainly due to the increase in demand for optical modules in the Chinese mainland screenless TV industry, as well as the increase in shipments of smart home appliances, 3D printers and shelf display products.

The company also expects fourth-quarter shipments to decline sequentially due to the adverse effects of sino-US trade frictions and the depreciation of the renminbi.
