In the eyes of many people, this home remedy can remove the toxins accumulated by pregnant women during pregnancy, and also prevent eczema and jaundice after birth.
At the entrance of some maternity hospitals and multiple online sales platforms, you can see the sale of green fruits, and some merchants directly mark "pregnant women to go to the fetal fire" and "boil the pig's belly to remove the fetal fire" in the product introduction.
Can it really be detoxified? Are there any side effects? The Red Star News reporter interviewed a number of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine obstetricians and gynecologists, and the answers they gave were "not recommended to eat", and there were cases of adverse reactions after eating.
The green fruits sold on the platform are written as "go to the fetal fire"
Doctor:
About 2 percent of pregnant women will consume it in the third trimester of pregnancy and have had preterm birth
Green fruits are also known as olives. In the view of Pan Li, deputy chief physician of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Chengdu Xindu District People's Hospital, it is generally believed that taking stewed pork belly with green fruits in the third trimester is beneficial to pregnant women and fetuses. She and her colleagues have done research on this, and among the more than 200 pregnant women counted, one-fifth had eaten the meal of stewed pork with green fruits in the third trimester, including stewed pork belly and pork ribs, and the amount of green fruits varied, "There are a few, and there are more than a dozen." ”
As an obstetrician, she does not recommend pregnant women to eat green fruits. Pan Li told the Red Star News reporter that as early as 2019, she received a 23-year-old pregnant woman, "The whole pregnancy was smooth." "However, in the third trimester, the fetus suffered from hypoxia in the womb, and it did not improve after a few days of hospitalization, and finally the ultrasound showed that the fetus had hydrocetas, and finally had to have a cesarean section before term. When injecting the newborn, Pan Li also found that the child could not stop the bleeding, and finally found out that the child's "platelets are very low, only 10, while normal people have hundreds." In addition to this, the child also developed severe anemia, accompanied by blood diseases such as hepatosplenomegaly.
The hospital checked the genetic testing of the child's parents and found that there was no problem, and later when questioning the pregnant woman, I learned that a week before admission, the pregnant woman had taken stewed pork belly with green fruit twice, "although I didn't take the green fruit, but I drank all the pork belly and soup." She suddenly remembered a stillborn case she had taken over more than a decade ago, and had eaten this meal a week or two before the incident. Is there a connection, she wondered?
Pan Li, deputy chief physician of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Chengdu Xindu District People's Hospital
Later, in communication with colleagues, Pan Li found that since 2000, her colleagues have found at least 11 cases of intrauterine fetal death in the third trimester of pregnancy in clinical work, and these pregnant women have a history of taking stewed pork belly with green fruits 1~2 weeks before this. Pan Li consulted relevant literature and found that Qingguo has the effects of clearing heat and relieving pharynx, relieving hangover and protecting liver, antioxidant, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and antiviral. However, its chemical composition is complex, including flavonoids, polyphenols, volatile oils, coumarins, triterpenoids, etc., and the flavonoids content in the juice dialysate accounts for 40.1% of the green juice, while flavonoids have genotoxicity and cytotoxicity, and the intake of flavonoids during pregnancy is related to the increased risk of a certain type of leukemia in infants and young children. Pan Li thought of the previous newborn whose mother had no special history of abnormalities during pregnancy, but had a series of symptoms after taking Qingguo, and she thought that "it cannot be ruled out that it was caused by taking Qingguo poisoning." ”
Following the treatment of this pregnant woman in 2019, she has been paying attention to the impact of stewed pork belly with green fruit on pregnant women and their fetuses. In the past few years, she has successively admitted 5 pregnant women with similar conditions, and the fetus has different degrees of distress. After consulting a TCM colleague, she gave the pregnant woman a "detoxification" recipe - 50g of licorice + 15g of mung beans, and then stewed with water and then taken it. She added the WeChat of the pregnant women and wrote "Qingguo No. 1-5" in the WeChat remarks to facilitate understanding of the situation, "The outcomes of the latter cases are very good." ”
Pan Li believes that although the "Compendium of Materia Medica" does say that green fruit can clear fetal poison, it does not explain the dosage. She hopes that other obstetricians will pay attention to similar conditions and give more sample studies.
High content of purines and fats
It is not recommended for pregnant women with high blood lipids and underlying pancreatitis
Duan Xiuling, the outpatient director of Sichuan Jinxin Xinan Women and Children's Hospital (Jingxiu Campus), has been practicing medicine for more than 30 years and has treated thousands of pregnant women. She mentioned that the public often thinks that neonatal eczema and jaundice are "fetal toxin", but jaundice is physiological and pathological, and eczema is also caused by multiple factors, which is not the same concept as "fetal toxin" in traditional Chinese medicine, and cannot be "poisoned" through diet. Some of the pregnant women she has seen have had diarrhoea, pancreatitis or premature birth after eating stewed pork belly with green fruits.
Duan Xiuling, director of the outpatient department of Sichuan Jinxin Xinan Women and Children's Hospital (Jingxiu Campus).
She said that from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, green fruit has the effects of clearing heat, removing fire, and improving the throat, but not everyone needs it, and "pregnant women will do more harm than good when they eat it." First of all, pork belly itself is high in cholesterol, and often eating a large amount of it is not conducive to the health of pregnant women, and has a great impact on blood lipids. In addition, the meal has a bitter taste, and pregnant women eat it in order to strengthen nutrition or to remove "fetal toxin", which will lead to mood swings, which is not good for the fetus, and in the case of severe pregnancy reactions, it will also damage the liver and kidney function of pregnant women. Taken together, the dish itself is an ordinary food and not a necessary tonic.
Li Xiaohong, deputy director of the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Chengdu Women and Children's Central Hospital, also does not recommend that pregnant women eat offal with high fat content during pregnancy, especially drinking soup, "which often leads to elevated blood lipids and abnormal metabolism." She explained that in the ancient book of traditional Chinese medicine "Young and Young Integration", there is indeed a record of "fetal poison", that is: "All fetal poisons, such as worm scabies, liudan, eczema, carbuncles, tuberculosis, heavy tongue, thrush, and fetal fever, fetal cold, fetal convulsions, and fetal yellow." Hence the folk saying that detoxification is a fetal virus. However, she said that "fetal poison" is actually a folk saying, which refers to the recurrence of eczema and other skin problems after birth, but whether it is for pregnant women or fetal excretion of "fetal poison", there is no scientific basis, and there is no scientific research to find that it can be prevented during pregnancy.
Li Xiaohong said that pregnant women may indeed have dry mouth, bitter mouth, bad breath, thick tongue, dry palms and other conditions due to excessive tonic, emotional tension, lack of sleep, physical weakness and other reasons, especially Chengdu is more humid, and people like to eat spicy, "all kinds of discomfort of dampness and heat will also be considered fetal poison." However, in the scientific process of motherhood and childbirth, traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes that pregnant women should maintain a good mood, be moderated and regular in their diet, do not blindly clear away heat and tonic, and try not to produce anxiety such as passivity and resistance. If you feel unwell, please seek medical attention in time and take medication for improvement, recovery or medication under the guidance of a doctor.
