The boy who jumped off the building was named Alexander Utula, 22 years old. Utula's girlfriend, Yoo In-young, is 21 years old and a Korean.

A school spokesman said Utula was a gifted student at the school and had participated in many activities, including joining the Boston College Philippine Society. Suffolk County Prosecutor Rachel M. Rawlings said a bill currently in the Legislative Council could make it an offence to encourage or assist suicide and could face up to 5 years in prison.
Rawlings said that Liu Renying is currently staying in South Korea, and prosecutors are "cautiously optimistic" about whether Yoo Will voluntarily return to the United States for trial. "If she doesn't come back, we're going to use our power to get her back to the United States."
The case is related to Massachusetts woman Michelle The case is similar to that of Michelle Carter, who was convicted of involuntary homicide for sending a text message to her boyfriend in 2014 to encourage him to commit suicide. Carter, 22, is serving a 15-month sentence. Rawlings compared the two cases and said the two situations were similar in some ways.
