In 2017, Ma Tian released his first vinyl album, Bonfire, a rather bumpy recording process.

At the end of 2012, Ma Tiao began to prepare for the recording of a new album, and after a year of work, the computer "unfortunately" died and the hard disk was damaged. Ma Tiao ran all over Zhongguancun, holding the computer for first aid, but in the end it did not help.

No way, in 2014, Ma Tiao began to record the album again, but in this process, the change of musicians, the difference in state, and the change of musical motivation made Ma Tiao's heart full of regret. The expression of instantaneous feelings cannot be repeated again, but it is gratifying that in the process, Ma Tian found a new feeling, enriched his music, and created three more new works in addition to the nine works he planned to record. After the recording of the last song, "Fools", Ma Tiao felt satisfied, and an album was increased from nine songs to twelve, and it was enriched and more perfect.

On the day of meeting Ma Tiao, he did not bring an assistant, and suddenly appeared in front of us in his car, saw us waving at him, rolled down the car window, poked his head out, and asked: "Is this the place?" After receiving a positive answer, he jumped out of the car sharply and greeted us.

On that day, Ma Tiao was wearing a black leather jacket and a pair of simple jeans, and the metal necklace shone under the sun, revealing a youthful energy, as if declaring some kind of belief. He strode straight to the nearest café, recklessly almost rushing into the VIP area, and the friction of Martin's boots against the floor made a clicking sound.

We sat by the huge floor-to-ceiling window, the sun shining brightly, and the horse bar lit a cup of hot chocolate in his hand.

Ma Tiao's personality is casual, and he said to us: "Let's talk casually, call Brother Tiao and Uncle Tiao." He used to like to be called "brother" by others, kind, like the big brother next door. But since a few years ago, new friends around him have always called him "Uncle Tiao". He didn't want others to call him that, and he felt that he was getting old. Until recent years, he semi-compromised and said, "Uncle Tiao is Uncle Tiao." ”

Born in Karamay, Xinjiang, Ma Tiao is hot in summer and cold in winter, and the air is dry, but people get along with each other warmly and straight. Ma Tiao's first job was as an oilfield worker in the Karamay oil field, working every day, drinking with friends on a monthly salary, day after day.

In addition, Ma Tiao and his friends formed a band called "Pangolins". Influenced by Cui Jian, Zhang Chu and Tang Dynasty, Ma Tiao also liked rock music, in addition to the mainland, they also sang songs of Hong Kong and Taiwan singers, Beyond, Luo Dayou, Ma Tiao have sung. But at that time he couldn't play the guitar, and he could only be the lead singer.

"Once the door to music is opened, it can never be closed again." Ma Tiao said that music is his opposite, allowing him to clearly examine himself.

In 1994, Ma Tiao came to Beijing with 5,000 yuan, and he had a very simple idea: to learn guitar. After arriving in Beijing, he spent a fortune in a piano shop to buy a guitar — a xylophone worth 1,600 yuan. Then he paid another year's rent of 2,000 yuan, and the rest of the money was used as living expenses. At that time, 10 yuan was a month's living expenses for ma tiao, and he could even eat only boiled noodles in water 365 days a year, but he didn't feel bitter.

"Sometimes people can control their lives by spirit, and the so-called suffering you see is not bitter in my perception. Maybe I can eat one meal of meat a month, but it doesn't matter, I just know what I really want."

Ma Tiao, who had originally applied for the study class, wanted to learn the piano with the teacher, but after going there a few times, he found that the teacher was "fooling", so it was better to teach himself. So he lived a mechanical life of climbing the grid and practicing the piano at home every day, but he never felt bored.

In 1995, Ma Tian began playing the piano in a lounge, first he played bass, and later the piano, "because the one who played the piano taught me, he could rest."

When playing the piano and singing in the bar, the horse bar can earn more than 10,000 yuan per month, which can be regarded as a "huge amount of money" in the ninth year. But the enthusiastic horse did not keep any savings, and the money earned was used to invite friends to drink.

In 1999, Ma Tian went to the record company with the songs he wrote and signed them to Wheat Field Music as a singer. Wheat Field Music produced an album for Ma Tiao, but unfortunately it was not released that year.

The real watershed in MaTiao's career came in 2007, when he signed to March Records, and in March 2009, the "Folk on the Road" tour brought some income to the artists at the time and gradually made Matiao famous. However, for the public, the real watershed should be "Good Chinese Songs". Before the official recording of the program, Ma Tiao had been hesitant, and even repeatedly told his director that he would not record and would go home. "I really appreciated the Shanghai girl who was staying in the same hotel as us, but unfortunately she wasn't chosen. I told the director I wasn't going, let her go. ”

Finally, a song "Fool" on "Good Songs of China" touched Liu Huan, Cai Jianya, Zhou Huajian and other mentors, and Liu Huan even said in the program: "We met another music poet." ”

"Musical poet" and "folk poet" are the labels that people often attach to horse strips. But Ma Tiao never considered himself a poet: "Poets are so great, and their perspectives write about experiences that are completely different from ours." I'm just a bit of a snow moon. ”

After the show, more people got to know Ma Tiao, and occasionally someone recognized him on the street. "I hope that 'Good Songs of China' can continue to be done for 100 years. This stage is very real, it is all up to the skill. Stay if you can't, leave if you can't. "After three years of participating in the perfect song, Ma Tiao still appreciates the show." There's a lot of gold in China, and I hope this show will scoop it out like a big wave of sand. ”

Although many people will feel that "poets" like Ma Tiao should not participate in the talent show, he only feels that it is a platform that can be displayed for everyone, and only by relying on their own skills can they really "show" out, and even if there is no work, even if the "drama" is enough, it is impossible to go on.

The song of the horse strip is like its person, and the Taste of Xinjiang is very strong, just like the tall and tall man, he is full of the strength of the northwest hanzi. Ma Tiao once said: "Everyone thinks that when I grew up in Xinjiang, there should be Dongbula, Ai czech, and Rewafu in the song, and I don't want to use it. I see these as prerogatives. "Ma Tiao never dislikes his Xinjiang accent, which he sees as a cultural trait." There is no shame in having an accent. If people who grew up in Xinjiang sang a mouthful of Hong Kong and Taiwan accents, they would be humiliated! It's a cultural lack of confidence. At this time, the characteristics of the horse strip were magnified again.

Ma Tiao, who has not yet signed up for the company, described it as "I don't want to go into the factory." There has always been a "childlike spirit" in his body, he doesn't care what everyone likes, he doesn't care what everyone hates, he just wants to write what he wants to write, "your preferences have nothing to do with me, and it won't affect me."

Toward the end of the interview, Ma Tiao tilted his head and sighed: "I have been in Beijing for 24 years, and by February 2018, it was a full 24 years." ”

What books do you usually read?

Ma Tiao: When I was young, I watched a lot, Jia Pingwa's "Waste Capital" and Mo Yan's. There are too many, I can't even remember, I have also seen Yu Hua's "Alive" and "Xu Sanguan Selling Blood". Jin Yong's martial arts novels. When I was in middle school, I also saw Qiong Yao.

Do you listen to vinyl yourself?

Ma Tiao: Listen, there is a vinyl machine at home. I think vinyl is a musical act, that is, you can think of music as a weighty thing. Vinyl is the weight of music. If it weighs 50 grams, the weight of the music is 50 grams.

What was the opportunity to decide to release the vinyl of "Bonfire"?

Ma Tiao: Zhou Xiaochuan (CEO of Extrasolar) has mentioned it to me many times, and I want to try it too. So when he came to Beijing, we had a meal, and the matter was settled. The feeling of vinyl and CD is not the same, especially retro. If this one is done, I may make another sheet of vinyl in the next one. In the future, I will make vinyl as long as I make records.

What do you think of current folk singers?

Ma Tiao: Now the folk singers are simple and direct, and I think it is quite good to be able to listen to and grasp the psychology of the audience. Because it's a fast food era. No one spends more time to slowly taste the lyrics, taste the melody, and then analyze its arrangement, no one wants to do this, listen to it and feel good and then listen to it, not listen to it, this is caused by the times. Therefore, the singers who come out of this era should conform to this era, from words to songs to singing to looks, which may be needed in this era.
