In recent years, Chenggong District has vigorously promoted and inherited Chenggong folk paintings, strengthened the exchange and integration of folk arts, promoted the inheritance and development of excellent traditional folk art forms, used folk paintings to tell the story of national unity, and depicted colorful Chenggong pictures.
It is reported that Chenggong folk painting, commonly known as "peasant painting", emerged in the early 80s of the twentieth century. Chenggong folk painting inherits the tradition of folk art, boldly absorbs the exaggerated techniques of modern art, and creates a unique painting language, with exaggerated pictures, full composition, bright colors, lively and auspicious, full of earthy aroma style and characteristics, which has been appreciated by people from all walks of life. In 1993, Chenggong County was named the "Hometown of Peasant Painting Art". In 2008, it was named "Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art (Peasant Painting)" again. In 2017, Chenggong folk paintings were included in the list of intangible cultural heritage protection at the district level. In October 2023, Dayu Street (Peasant Painting) in Chenggong District was selected into the list of "Hometown of Yunnan Folk Culture and Art" from 2023 to 2025. At present, there are more than 40 folk painting teams and 9 inheritors in the region, with more than 700 works, more than 80 of which have been selected for national exhibitions (including more than 20 inheritors), more than 100 have been selected for provincial exhibitions, more than 160 have been selected for municipal exhibitions, and more than 50 works have won the second, third and excellent awards at the national, provincial and municipal levels.
Behind the prosperity of Chenggong folk painting is the great attention of the Chenggong District Party Committee, the district government and relevant departments. The Culture and Tourism Bureau of Chenggong District takes folk painting as the starting point, launches folk painting cultural and creative products, sets up a folk painting exhibition hall, displays the fine folk paintings of decades for a long time, uses the network platform to display the personal works of outstanding folk painting authors, and expands the folk painting display space through the "online + offline" model. Carry out activities such as "folk painting into the campus" and "folk painting into the community", so that folk painting can start from the doll and enter thousands of households. The Chenggong District Cultural Center insists on hiring famous folk painting teachers to hold more than one folk painting training class every year to improve the painting skills of Chenggong folk painting authors......

The deepening of various forms has made Chenggong folk paintings glow with vigorous vitality, and their popularity and influence have been continuously improved. On May 21, 2024, the "Charming Spring City · Colorful Flower Capital" Kunming Folk Painting Exhibition and Exchange Activity in Tibet opened at the Tibet Autonomous Region Mass Art Museum. 120 fine folk paintings from Chenggong, Guandu and Shilin (county) districts bloomed wonderfully on the snowy plateau, and 2 Chenggong folk painting authors went to Tibet for artistic exchanges. On March 5, 2024, Chenggong District and Starbucks jointly held the "Art Museum in a Coffee Cup" - Chenggong Folk Painting Exhibition, the Hometown of Chinese Folk Culture and Art· at the main atrium and 7F art space of the first city of Colorful Yunnan ·, Chenggong District, with 100 folk paintings on display......
