On July 1, 2024, Chinese Ambassador to France Lu Shaye attended and delivered a speech at the delivery ceremony of the circumferential field coil of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) program, and met with Barabasky, Director General of ITER. Dong Guangli, Consul General of the People's Republic of China in Marseille, and Guo Xiaolin, Minister Counselor of Science and Technology of the Embassy, accompanied the attendance.

In his speech, Ambassador Lu said that with the acceleration of the world's major changes unseen in a century, it is more important than ever for human society to work together to carry out cooperation in scientific and technological innovation. China is willing to continue to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with ITER and its members, and build the ITER program into a "little sun" that illuminates a community with a shared future for mankind.

During his meeting with Director-General Barabasky, Ambassador Lu expressed his appreciation for the fruitful work he has done since taking office, and noted that the ITER program represents humanity's belief in cooperation for peace and development, and that the Chinese government will continue to actively participate in and support it. The Director-General thanked China for its long-standing and outstanding contribution to the programme.

Ambassador Lu also visited the Chinese employees of ITER and the Chinese construction personnel, and encouraged them to work hard and make positive contributions to the completion of the project.
The ITER program is one of the world's largest and most far-reaching international research cooperation projects. The circumferential field coil is one of the core components of the project, and its delivery is an important milestone achievement of the project construction. Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Masahito Moriyama and Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security Frank Latin attended the event and delivered speeches, and European Commission Energy Commissioner Simsen delivered a video speech. ITER Deputy Director General Rodrond participated in the event.
