Surgent Studios, developer of the Metroidvania adventure game Tales of Kenzera™: ZAU, announced on Twitter today that the studio will be laying off more than a dozen employees.
The layoff announcement comes less than three months before the release of The Legend of Kenzela: Zau. Released on April 24 for NS, PlayStation, Xbox and PC, it is Surgent Studios' first game project. At present, the game has 416 player reviews on Steam, with a positive rating of 81%.
In the official announcement of the layoffs, it said: "Unfortunately, as more and more game studios have been affected by the layoffs this year, Surgent has also become one of them, with only a dozen people affected. It's a difficult time for the gaming industry, but we're incredibly proud of the entire team's efforts on ZAU, as well as the praise from critics and players alike. Our focus now is to support those affected, continue our work on ZAU, and look ahead to the next creative project in the future. ”
