This is the latest addition to IK Multimedia's groundbreaking Pianoverse virtual instrument, which combines the world's best concert-grade piano with inspirational cinematic effects. For users, Liberty Upright is included in the Pianoverse update released today through the IK Product Manager. It can also be purchased separately and included in the Pianoverse MAX.
This new feature of Pianoverse allows users to explore an amazing vocal range. It combines the most authentic acoustic piano experience with a second set of natural detuned samples, designed to pair with the sound design features of the Pianoverse to power the wildest atmospheres and interactive creative textures.
The charm of the old world
The Liberty Upright is a virtual instrument in the upright piano and a unique piece of history. It is based on the historic Koch & Korselt upright grand piano made in Bohemia in 1915 using robot-assisted depth multisampling technology. Known for its rich, loud tone, this upright piano adds a unique new color to the Pianoverse, expanding the creative palette like never before.
Two captures
Given the 100-year history of this piano, it is justified to shoot it twice: the first is in its true relic state, which naturally detunes after years of precipitation, with a beautiful and soft damping that gives the piano an almost natural reverberant effect; The second time was after being restored and fine-tuned by a master tuner. Both of these results sound stunning, doubling the standard Pianoverse instrument sound content and presets, making them the perfect source to explore the infinite soundscapes and effects of the Pianoverse.
The Liberty Upright upright piano was meticulously recorded in a state-of-the-art IK recording studio located at IK's headquarters in Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy. IK's custom robotic system and AKG 414 microphones were used during the recording process to capture the sound of close-up recordings, and a pair of overlapping DPA microphones were used to capture the sound on the back of the piano. This allows users to experience the true essence of the instrument and provides a unique new source of sound for the depth effects and environments of the Pianoverse.
Beyond precision and sound, Pianoverse combines the unique features of performance control for stage and studio work to make a difference.
To customize the tone of each piano, it offers adjustable lid position, harp resonance, pedal noise, and even mallet noise, which is usually only found in model instruments. When used in the field, all 3 pedals provide continuous control, including half pedals, capture pedals, and Una Corda, for an unparalleled playing experience.
A must-have studio handle
Pianoverse offers 2 sets of microphones for each piano, and users can choose between a more modern and intuitive sound, or a more classical one. For traditional sound shaping and mixing, the Pianoverse engine also offers a full suite of must-have effects tools, as well as a dedicated master channel with EQ and VCA-style limiters for final mastering.
Spawn space to be explored
For most piano instruments, the Pianoverse is just getting started. Pianoverse leverages a new generative reverb engine that can deliver any of the 7 concert pianos to 30 sound destinations. From traditional concert halls and recording studio spaces, to less traditional warehouses or vaults, and otherworldly film environments like icebergs, deserts, or Mars. In addition, each space contains flexible controls that further shape and create never-before-heard of cinematic sound and texture.
Unique creative effects
In addition to customizing the space, Pianoverse offers 12 new creative effects for sound design. These effects range from a brand-new cinematic space effect to a must-have studio effect, and can be inserted into 3 slots at the same time: the first slot is a parallel send effect, while the second and third slots are insert effects.
In addition, Pianoverse's unique 4 modulation sources (2 envelopes and 2 LFOs) can be assigned to various parameters in these 3 effect slots to further animate, move sounds, and produce extreme effects when needed. Together, these effects form a library of sound sculpting tools that are unmatched by any other piano instrument.

With the introduction of the Liberty upright piano, there are now 7 pianos in the Pianoverse, which are based on the Koch & Korselt upright grand piano, Steinway & Sons Hamburg D-274, Fazioli F278 concert grand piano, Yamaha CFIII concert grand piano, Yamaha U5 professional upright piano, Bösendorfer 280 Vienna concert piano and Steinway & Sons New York D-274。 Another product based on the Bösendorfer 200 will soon be launched, allowing users to discover new inspirations as needed.
