Power supply system
The BMW X6 is equipped with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo petrol engine, a new 4.4-liter V8 gasoline direct-injection twin-turbo engine, and a 4.8-liter gasoline engine, but the BMW X6 introduced to China is only equipped with 3.0-liter and 4.4-liter V8 gasoline direct-injection twin-turbo engines. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the BMW X6 is equipped with a dynamic drive force distribution system to improve the X6's performance in driving stability and handling precision. At the same time, in combination with the AWD system, the driving force is reasonably distributed between the front and rear axles.
Model positioning
No matter which angle you look at the X6, the part below the waistline is somewhat similar to the BMW X5 (BMW officially calls the X5 SAV:e), while the part above the waistline has a beautiful roofline, low windows, and tight C-pillars, which is completely like the body of a coupe model. BMW successfully combined the design of the SAV model and the coupe model into one car, and the BMW X6 was born. The further enlarged kidney grille, the dazzling (photo gallery forum) angel eye headlights, the overlapping bumper introduced by BMW, and the air intakes at the fog lamps all add to the front design.
According to BMW's designer, the design of the rear of the car is his favorite, with a large angled rear windshield, huge L-shaped taillights, a streamlined rear wing and a fierce exhaust pipe, and of course, the most important thing is that it has a very strong coupe shape, which is pleasing to the eye.
Luxury equipment
Due to the coupe factor, the X6 does not have as much trunk space as the previous generation X5, but it can still reach 570L, which is enough for daily use. It can also be expanded to a large luggage of 1450L if required. It is worth mentioning that the trunk opening angle of the X6 can be adjusted in five levels through the i-Drive system, which can still be opened smoothly in a small space, which is very user-friendly.
Shock-absorbing suspension system
The modification of the suspension system can be roughly divided into replacing the shock absorber, strengthening the suspension structure rod, adding the balance bar, etc., among which the most influential and modified project is the shock absorber. The modification of the shock absorber is actually the replacement of the shock with stiffer damping, better quality, and full coordination with the spring. Choosing the right set of shocks is very important, and it is especially difficult to compromise between comfort and handling, but in purely competitive racing, where handling is all about, a hard set of shocks is undoubtedly more practical for a modified car.
Family car modification should start from actual needs, clarify the purpose, and improve according to needs, rather than blindly imitating. Whether it is to meet the luxury, comfort, or to improve the performance of the vehicle, to make up for the lack of function, always pay attention to ensure the safety, passability and environmental protection of the vehicle. Blind modding is not only not fun, but also dangerous.
Engine power
The engine is the most important part of the whole vehicle as the heart is to the person. Although there are many ways to improve the power output of the engine, such as changing the air-fuel ratio, increasing the forged piston, strengthening the connecting rod, replacing the crankshaft, replacing the high-performance spark plug, etc., the modification process is basically divided into improvement, exhaust, and ignition system modification.
Air intake system
The air filter on the engine is used to filter the air required for the operation of the engine, and this device is found on gasoline engines. In the eyes of car enthusiasts, the air filter installed on the original car seems to be insufficient, so car enthusiasts have the habit of modifying the air intake system. The modified products are made of special chemical fibers, and their biggest advantage is that while filtering the air, the air flow and flow rate into the combustion chamber are increased, so that the fuel is burned more fully, the unit efficiency is higher, and the engine performance is naturally different. The air filter used in the original car is a disposable product, while the high-flow original air filter or mushroom head for modification uses better quality materials, which can be cleaned, reused, and more environmentally friendly.
Exhaust system
After the engine works, exhaust gases will be discharged, and the exhaust efficiency is directly related to the performance of the engine. The original car design tends to have a quieter engine, which affects the exhaust speed and reduces the engine efficiency! While the intake air is increased and the combustion is intact, the exhaust efficiency needs to be improved. Now most of them are changed to straight exhaust, that is, the middle and front sections of the exhaust system are changed, and the muffler and other purification devices are removed to shorten the entire exhaust process, and the exhaust gas is discharged after simple treatment. After the improvement, the car will accelerate faster. The modified inline barrel will make a deafening sound when accelerating, but the resonance should not be too large, otherwise driving the vehicle for a long time will increase the driver's fatigue and irritability.
Shading filtration system
As a tool for people's outdoor activities, cars are very likely to be exposed to strong light from the outside world for a long time, especially when the car is exposed to strong light during driving, which will damage people's visual environment, hurt eyes, and even endanger driving safety. The LCD filter screen can quickly change the brightness according to the intensity of the light, the light becomes dark when the light is strong, and the light becomes brighter when the light is weak, so as to weaken all kinds of strong light, whether it is under the strong sunlight during the day or under the illumination of the car lights at night, it can protect people's eyes and faces from excessive stimulation and damage.
Kanglin filter screen can filter out all kinds of harmful light such as glare, stray light, refracted light, reflected light, scattered light and other harmful light in front of the car, enhance visual acuity, improve color contrast and visual clarity, increase visual comfort, and eliminate fatigue caused by long-term driving.
Interior space
Plenty of headroom in the rear
Two single rear seats with integrated headrests make the second-row passengers of the BMW X6 feel comfortable and safe as well. The rear door can be opened at a wide angle, making it easier for two passengers in the rear to get in and out of the car. The rear headroom reaches 944 mm (37.2 inches), which is unusual for a coupe, so tall passengers can enjoy comfort. From the back, the rear window shape of the BMW X6 gives people a tough and open feeling, and at the same time, you can feel the spaciousness of the space.
The passenger compartment and luggage compartment of the BMW X6 are clearly divided in a way that is common to coupes. For example, the luggage compartment behind the rear seats of the BMW X6 has a volume of 570 liters, which is much larger than a sports car and can accommodate four large golf bags even with a full seat of four. To increase transport capacity, the rear seat backs can be folded asymmetrically, increasing the load to 1,450 liters or 51 cubic feet. The BMW X6 also comes with an automatic tailgate opening and closing function, which comes standard with a two-stage throttle lever that allows the driver to change the final position of the tailgate opening. This helps to reduce the risk of damage, such as in underground parking lots or low garages. The loading sills are made of high-quality steel, which enriches the personality of the overall appearance of the vehicle. The foldable tailgate cover further optimizes the flexibility of the cargo compartment. Thanks to the Z-fold principle, the cargo hatch cover can be stored under the cargo floor. The cargo hatch cover can be easily removed and locked in place. If required, small pieces of luggage can also be secured in the desired position using an adjustable fastening system. The system is part of an optional storage kit that also includes two tie rods with four adjustable eyelets, storage nets and pack hooks.
Smart lightweight construction
Smart lightweight construction for improved dynamics and rigidity Like the rest of the BMW X series, the BMW X6 has a very robust body. In order to reduce weight as much as possible with excellent body rigidity, the BMW engineers who developed the new model attached great importance to the use of intelligent lightweight structures from the very beginning: the choice of materials and the arrangement and geometry of the various support bars were based on an overall concept that combines maximum crash safety with maximum driving agility.
One of the new elements added to achieve this ambitious goal is the cast aluminum spring struts integrated into the front of the BMW X6. Thanks to the lightweight cast aluminium construction, the weight can be reduced by up to 50% compared to conventional components. At the same time, the structural stiffness is significantly improved through appropriate functional design and local reinforcement. The increased stiffness also optimizes the vehicle's dynamic driving performance. In addition, the use of cast aluminum spring struts saves a lot of space and helps to shorten the length of the front end.
Make sure nothing goes wrong
In order to optimize passive safety to the highest standards, the goal was set at the first development of the body to ensure maximum stability in the passenger compartment with 6 airbags and anti-rollover sensor system. The forces experienced by the car in a crash are dispersed by the engine support arm and chassis along multiple load paths, thus preventing individual components from being overloaded.
The new BMW X6 is equipped not only with front hip and chest airbags, but also with side head protection curtains, which can cover the A-pillar and roof when inflated, protecting front and rear passengers from injury. The front seats of the new BMW X6 are equipped with seat belt force limiters and seat belt tensioners. To prevent cervical spine injuries in the event of a rear collision, the front seats of the BMW X6 are equipped with crash activated headrests as standard.
This reduces the distance the head has to be tilted back due to the force of the vehicle's impact. The increased stability and immobilization of the headrest reduces the risk of injury to the occupant's cervical spine due to overstretching. The rear seats also come standard with child seat fixtures. All restraint protection systems are controlled by an electronic central safety system, which monitors the type and severity of the collision and, accordingly, activates the most effective protection devices. The front airbags feature a two-stage inflator that can change how well the airbag is inflated depending on the severity of the crash.
Provides the best view
Bi-xenon headlights are standard. The BMW X6 comes standard with bi-xenon headlights, which not only ensure optimal illumination of the road ahead at night, but also offer beautiful and functional daytime running lights. It also improves the vehicle's visibility at longer distances, making it easy to see at a glance that this is a real BMW. The BMW X6 comes standard with a light sensor that automatically switches to low beams based on ambient brightness. Other standard features include a rain sensor that measures rainfall, wipers that automatically adjust the operating mode and speed, and a daylight sensor that provides daylight intensity to the automatic air conditioner.
The optional High Beam Assist system automatically switches from high to low beam when approaching or at a certain distance from the vehicle in front of you, improving driving comfort at night. The BMW X6 can also be equipped with adaptive headlights on request, ensuring dynamic illumination when cornering. The direction of the headlights is determined by the steering angle, yaw rate, and vehicle speed.
Smart lighting control
One element of this option is the variable light distribution, which optimizes the lighting effect of straight segments. This innovative control system selectively expands the light cone according to the vehicle speed, automatically increasing the illumination range. For example, in city light mode with a speed of less than 50 km/h, a wider light distribution is provided to be able to see objects on both sides of the road. In highway light mode, the illumination range is expanded, and the illumination on the driver's left side is enhanced by increasing the range of the light cone.
Turn on the fog lights at speeds below 70 km/h and the light distribution will widen, further illuminating the area around the vehicle. At higher speeds, the light cone not only widens, but also increases the irradiation range. Fog lights are part of the adaptive headlight package and can also be used as turn signals. When the vehicle turns, the mirror directs the light cone to one side so that the light is directed in the direction of the curve. Independent rear fog lamps at the rear are also a key element of the BMW X6's integrated safety concept. Since they are spatially separated from the taillights, they provide a clear signal even in the most adverse weather conditions.
Transmission system
New 8-cylinder engine
The most important feature is the domineering spirit of "who else but me" - BMW X series and its 8-cylinder engine have such characteristics. Now the BMW X6 is the world's first all-round coupe, adding an unrivalled new force to the BMW X Series and for the first time with a particularly sporty eight-cylinder engine. The all-new V8 engine has a displacement of 4.4 litres and uses twin-turbo technology with petrol direct injection (high-precision direct injection system) to deliver maximum power in a wide rev range of 5,500-6,400 rpm.
300 kW/407 hp。 Engine torque delivers a maximum torque of 600 Nm over a very wide rev range of 1,750-4,500 rpm. The resulting natural, powerful and long-lasting power is the result of twin-turbocharging technology. Most of BMW's powerful straight-six engines use twin-turbochargers combined with high-precision injection technology. The cooling effect of the new V8 direct-injection fuel system also ensures that a compression ratio rarely found in turbocharged engines can be used, further improving the overall efficiency of the engine.
The arrangement of the turbocharger and the three-way catalytic converter at the V-junction between the two exhaust cylinders was also a technical innovation, which made the engine very compact and required a new configuration of the intake and exhaust pipes. This means that the shortened, larger cross-sectional intake and exhaust manifold significantly reduces pressure loss on the intake and exhaust side.
The all-aluminum V6 engine, developed specifically for the BMW X8, offers all the typical qualities of an 8-cylinder engine in an unbeatably sporty style. In practice, this means excellent torque at low speeds and powerful and dynamic performance at high speeds. The acceleration time from -100 km/h is just 5.4 seconds, and there is plenty of power reserve to provide amazing acceleration at high speeds. Thanks to the electronic governor limiter function of the engine control unit, the top speed can be set to an impressive 250 km/h.
Twin-turbo technology
The power and dynamic characteristics of the new V8 engine are largely due to Turbo technology, which for the first time uses two turbochargers on an 8-cylinder engine to increase engine power and torque at the same time for maximum efficiency. A turbocharger supplies compressed air to all four cylinders at once, ensuring extremely smooth operation and direct throttle pedal response.
As with twin-turbocharged inline-six engines, the typical "turbo hysteresis" of conventional turbocharged engines, i.e. the time lag required for the turbocharger to build up power and boost pressure, is almost completely eliminated with the help of this advanced technology. Another advantage is that the engine accelerates smoothly and powerfully, maintaining high and stable torque over a wide rev range. As a result, the engine is equivalent to a much larger naturally aspirated engine in terms of power and dynamics, while the weight is significantly reduced thanks to the all-aluminium crankcase.
The new V8 is not only small and lightweight, but also has unusually low fuel consumption in its class. The excellent fuel economy is mainly due to the dual VANOS camshaft infinitely variable management system, which is a technical feature of the BMW engine. In addition to excellent fuel economy, this technology enables the V8 to produce extremely high torque in the low rev range. High-precision injection also plays an important role in improving fuel efficiency. The second generation of direct gasoline injection technology uses piezoelectric injectors, which are arranged on the cylinder head close to the spark plug and inject fuel into the combustion chamber at a pressure of 200 bar. The advantage is that the fuel dosing is extremely precise, and the further benefit is reduced emissions and improved engine sound.
The engine fully meets the US emission standards and the European EU5 requirements, the new V8 engine is the most efficient engine in its class, combined with a number of advanced technologies developed in the BMW (High Efficiency Power) integrated project, the engine's fuel consumption and emission levels are significantly better than other 8-cylinder engines of BMW X rival models, with an average fuel consumption of 13.8 l/100 km and a CO2 emission value of 329 g/km.
In-line 6-cylinder engine
The first innovative all-round coupe is powered by BMW's most powerful inline 6-cylinder engine.
The second petrol model of the BMW X6 is powered by BMW's most powerful inline 6-cylinder engine, which has a maximum output of 225 kW/306 hp and a displacement of 3.0 liters, which is stable in the 5,800 to 6,250 rpm rev range and 400 Nm of maximum torque in the 1,300-5,000 rpm rpm range.
That said, the excellent power and torque of a 6-cylinder engine showed itself early on for a petrol engine and was able to maintain this high power over a wide rev range. Like the new V8 engine, the engine offers BMW's unique combination of twin-turbocharging and high-precision direct injection, offering unrivalled power and dynamics, while also offering excellent economy relative to the engine's power potential.
On an in-line six-cylinder engine, the twin turbocharger's two exhaust gas turbochargers supply compressed air to each of the three cylinders. The relatively compact turbocharger with low inertia also significantly optimizes the engine's response, establishing boost pressure from very low revs without lag. This allows for a rapid increase in power and torque, which are further enhanced by the infinitely adjustable twin VANOS camshafts. The globally exclusive characteristics of BMW's twin-turbo petrol engine provide the vehicle with unrivalled on-road performance and acceleration. In actual driving, the driver can feel the engine's excellent torque from a standstill acceleration and maintain excellent engine power consistently over a wide rev range.
The engine's exceptional dynamics are further enhanced by the high compression ratio, also thanks to the high-precision direct injection system: since the direct injection cools the mixture, a higher compression ratio can be selected compared to turbocharged engines with intake manifold injection. This improves engine efficiency and gets more power with less fuel. Another benefit of the in-line 6-cylinder high-precision direct injection system is that the piezoelectric injectors can be arranged in the center between the valves, close to the spark plugs, ensuring extremely precise injection dose.
Featuring twin-turbocharging and high-precision direct injection, this inline-six engine has a power level comparable to the much larger displacement of previous eight-cylinder engines. At the same time, BMW's most powerful six-cylinder engine offers improved fuel economy, while the significant weight reduction thanks to the all-aluminium crankcase also offers a huge benefit for excellent driving agility. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.7 seconds and has a top speed of 240 km/h. The average fuel consumption measured in the EU test cycle was only 12.7 l/100 km. The standard for CO2 emissions is 303 grams per kilometer.
Reduced fuel consumption and displacement
(BMW Efficiency): A range of features that reduce fuel consumption and emissions – all as standard. All models of the all-new BMW X6 offer a range of facilities on and around the engine that help improve the efficiency of the automatic transmission, ensuring an excellent balance between dynamics, dynamics and economy – and most of them are standard. For example, the regenerative braking system ensures intelligent management of the energy flow, focusing on generating and supplying power to the vehicle grid from the recovered energy during engine overspeed and braking. It is used to continuously charge the battery without consuming engine power, i.e., without consuming the energy provided by the fuel.
On the other hand, as long as the engine is towing the car, the generator will generally be disconnected. In addition to its high power generation efficiency, it also provides additional power to the car's acceleration, allowing for a more passionate way of driving. The overall efficiency of the BMW X6 is further optimised by opening the engine attachments on demand, significantly reducing the power required for the fuel pump and power steering pump, again saving energy in the process. The air conditioning compressor has a drive belt with an independent clutch that automatically disconnects the compressor once the driver turns off the air conditioning, minimizing the drag caused by the compressor. Other measures include the use of tires with low rolling resistance and the optimization of the car's aerodynamics.
The BMW X6 is equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission as standard to transmit power, and its unique sporty shifting characteristics have now been taken to a higher level. The automatic transmission is able to select the right gears with unrivalled smoothness, precision and efficiency, which not only contributes to outstanding comfort, but also makes the BMW X6 extremely dynamic. The 6-speed automatic transmission is connected directly to the engine and has a torque converter clutch that ensures that most of the time there is no slippage, and the gear selection is extremely precise, which also helps to optimize the overall efficiency of the power plant in practice.
The automatic transmission can be controlled via an electronic shifter or paddle shifters on the steering wheel. The shift lever shifts in the same pattern as a traditional automatic transmission, but the lever returns to the starting position after each shift. The transmission management system is not mechanically controlled, but uses electrical signals. Press the P button at the top of the switch to enter Park. To activate the manual shift mode, simply move the shift lever to the left. The gears can then be manually shifted sequentially – either via the gear lever or the standard steering wheel paddle shifters.
