Pediatric anesthesia, restlessness during awakening is a tricky problem. It is obviously not the best policy to control it with drugs, because it may cause unnecessary effects on the child's body. However, there seems to be no good solution if you don't use drugs. Below, we take a look at 11 interventions for restlessness in children during wakefulness.
(1) Parental recording: As the most familiar voice of the child, the mother's voice is often used, which is collected by the nurse before surgery, mainly encouraging words and calling names, and is used when awakening.
(2) Parental accompaniment (during induction and awakening): Parents and children enter the operating room together to accompany them before induction and after awakening to calm the child's emotions.
(3) Mother's video call: Have a video call with your mother after waking up.
(4) Perioperative psychological intervention: Nurses mainly carry out psychological intervention for parents and children before, during and after surgery, and pay more attention to reducing the psychological stress of children and improving the psychological tolerance threshold than conventional education.
(5) Distraction (toys, gift boxes, videos, etc.): Use various items to distract the child before induction.
(6) Phototherapy: Exposing the child to a preset blue light.
(7) Audio-visual rehearsal: During the preoperative visit, the video is played to the child and the parents, the content of which is for the two doctors to interact in a witty and interesting way, simulate the perspective of the child, and rehearse what they see and feel when entering the operating room anesthesia, including the environment and temperature of the operating room, the mask used by the child, the ECG monitoring, the pulse oxygen probe, the electrode and the reasonable fear that may be felt.
(8) Blindfold test: use an eye mask to simulate the patient's state after eye surgery before surgery.
(9) Light drink before surgery: The child should drink an appropriate amount of water or 5% glucose solution before surgery.
(10) White noise therapy: play white noise audio during the awakening period for intervention.
(11) Joint interventions: This type of study combines two or more interventions to form an integrated strategy or nursing model, which usually runs through the entire perioperative period, such as parent-parent accompaniment, perioperative co-cognitive intervention, perioperative comfort care, touch care combined with mother's voice, problem-oriented nursing model, preoperative structured education and postoperative visits.

It can be said that the eleven methods mentioned above are data-based. However, the situation is different in each hospital, and it may not be easy to implement.
