On June 30, the 13th anniversary of the opening of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, the busiest high-speed railway in China has sent more than 1.8 billion passengers. From the project to the operation, this high-speed railway has experienced what kind of legendary history.
The 13th anniversary of the opening of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway
From the proposal of the project to the start of construction, it took 18 years for the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway
As early as 1990, the former Ministry of Railways put forward the idea of building a high-speed railway from Beijing to Shanghai, and in the following years, the exploration and design of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway line and the preparation of feasibility reports were carried out in an orderly manner.
However, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail project was not all smooth sailing, because the construction of high-speed rail had not officially started in China at that time, and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway encountered a debate on the necessity of construction when it was proposed. Since then, there has been a comparison of wheel-rail scheme and maglev scheme, in 2004 to start the introduction of train set technology, to promote the process of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail project, until 2006 the line was officially approved, on April 18, 2008, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway officially started construction, from the project to the start of construction, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway took a full 18 years, the process is full of hardships.
On April 18, 2008, the construction of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway started
On June 30, 2011, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway with a total length of 1,318km was officially put into operation, and it took only three years from the start of construction to the opening of traffic, creating a record for the construction of long-distance high-speed rail lines in China. The design speed of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway reached 380km/h, but when it was put into operation, it encountered a large environmental impact of the high-speed railway, and it was only operated at 300km/h when it was put into operation, until September 21, 2017, when the Fuxing EMU was first operated on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway operated at a maximum speed of 350km/h.
In its 13th anniversary, it has sent more than 1.8 billion passengers
In the past 13 years, the annual passenger flow of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway has increased from tens of millions to more than 215 million, the highest daily passenger volume of the whole line is 9.03 billion, and the cumulative passenger volume has exceeded 1.8 billion.

The huge passenger flow has also created amazing profits, and in 2023, the national railway will create a new annual passenger volume, and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway is no exception, benefiting from the increase in passenger flow, the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway has created a net profit of 11.5 billion yuan, and it has become the most profitable high-speed railway in China.
The minimum interval between departures is 3.5 minutes, which is still overwhelming
The number of trains on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway is very dense, with more than 150 pairs of trains in multiple sections of the line, and more than 160 pairs of trains at the peak of the Jinan-Tai'an section, and the shortest tracking time of EMUs during peak hours has been compressed to 3.5 minutes.
All 17-car extra-long EMUs are used in the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway
The train control system of the domestic high-speed rail line with a speed of 300km/h is CTCS-3, and the shortest tracking time is 3 minutes, so it can be said that the train scheduling pressure of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway during peak hours has reached the limit. Sometimes the interval between trains is too short, and the rear train has to be forced to reduce speed, so when you are waiting for the train at the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail station, you may see the EMU passing slowly on the main line, or even stop on the main line.

At present, the vast majority of trains running on the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway are long marshalling models or ultra-long marshalling models, and the short marshalling models are generally reconnected operation, and all 41 trains of 17 ultra-long marshalling Fuxing EMUs belonging to the Beijing Bureau and Shanghai Bureau are running in the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway, even so, the passenger flow pressure of the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail is still huge, and the situation that it is difficult to find a ticket still exists.
