Replacing tires is an important item of car maintenance, because the quality of tires has a great impact on driving safety, and traffic accidents caused by tire factors account for more than 40%, which is enough to see the importance of tires. And some car owners do not realize the importance of replacing tires, and have seen that some car tires are about to burst, but the car owners still do not replace them. However, some car owners think that it is too expensive to replace and decide to use it for a longer period of time. In fact, when it is time to replace the tires, you must not delay, otherwise it may lead to serious consequences. So what are the criteria for changing a tire?
1. Degree of wear
Observe the degree of tire pattern wear, especially the thickness from the top to the bottom of the tread groove. New tires are generally about 8mm thick, and when they are worn to about 1.6mm, they should be replaced. This is because tires with a depth of less than 1.6mm left in the groove are already very thin, and there is a possibility of a puncture if a stone or slightly sharp object is crushed on the road, or even if the speed bump is not slowed down. In addition, traction and braking forces are greatly reduced when driving in rainy weather.
For the degree of wear, there are also wear limit signs in the grooves of the tire, and there is a small bump at intervals that should be replaced when worn around it to the level of the bulge. Different brands of tires have different wear resistance, and it generally takes an average of about 100,000 kilometers to reach the wear limit.
2. Degree of aging
The aging of tires is not only related to the time of use, but also has a lot to do with the environment in which they are used. The driving area is dry, the environment is good, and the vehicle also has its own garage, and the aging is relatively slower. If you park in the open every day, you will be exposed to wind, rain and sun, and the aging rate will be accelerated. Most tires have a lifespan of 5-7 years, with fast aging occurring in 5 years and slow aging in 7 years. The aging of tires can be seen with the naked eye and does not need to be detected by instruments. Aging tires will have a large number of cracks on the surface, starting with small cracks, and then gradually thickening and deepening.
3. Damage
If the nails are not very thick, the safety will not be affected after the tire is repaired. However, if the tire is punctured more than 4 times, it is recommended to replace the tire, which will have a great safety hazard when running at high speed. If the side is pierced, it must be replaced once pricked, and it is best not to patch the side. In addition to punctures, there are also scratches and rubbing off the skin. No matter what kind of injury, if it is on the side, the depth of the injury can be seen inside, indicating that the wound is relatively deep, and it is also recommended to replace it. If it is a frontal injury and the depth of the injury exceeds the wear limit, it is also recommended to replace it.
Another type of injury is the side bulge, which is also relatively common and needs to be replaced immediately. The reasons for the side bulge are all caused by squeezing, such as parking too far to the side, the tires squeezing on the curb teeth, getting on and off the curb at will, and the edge of the tires pressing against the stones while driving.
4. I have been driving for a long time without air
When the tire pressure is zero, you must stop immediately and resolutely do not continue driving. Even if you only drive a kilometer or two, the rubber of the tires will come off due to overheating. The rubber particles that have fallen off are inside the tire, and the tire is still very good from the outside, and there is no abnormality. But when the tire is removed from the hub, a large amount of rubber particles can be seen, so the tire is unusable. After driving a certain distance without gas, do not blindly inflate and continue to use, and must be carefully inspected to decide whether it can continue to be used.
5. Abnormal wear and tear
If the vehicle is not positioned correctly, or some other abnormality, it can cause the tires to wear off. For example, the left side of the tire is severely worn, and the right side is slightly worn; The tire is severely worn in the middle and slightly worn on both sides; The tires are worn out and jagged, and so on. As long as the tires are not evenly worn, they are considered abnormal wear, and there are not a few tires that are replaced due to abnormal wear. How can you find abnormal wear, only check the tires by the way during each maintenance, and deal with the abnormalities in time. If it is not found in time, it is already too late when there is a fault phenomenon, such as wearing into a jagged shape, then it can only be replaced, and the wheel will jump up and down without replacing, and there is a lot of noise in driving.
In short, in addition to the normal wear and tear of the tire, we should pay more attention to its injuries and abnormal wear, but where the tire is abnormal, it is irreparable and can only be replaced.
