Xiaomi SU7 Pro live broadcast, showing off smart driving and hiding charging shortcomings

Lei Jun's three-and-a-half-hour live broadcast should make many people regret the basic version.

The first launch of the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version was shown in the form of live broadcast, and the focus is not on this car, but on the final achievement rate of battery life, energy consumption performance, and the actual measurement of NOA functions in urban areas. The final result is that the live broadcast of the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version did not overturn, which was quite smooth.

The route is Shanghai-Hangzhou delivery center, and the whole journey takes about three and a half hours; The actual driving is about 177km, during which the high-speed NOA and urban NOA were measured, and the degree of functional completion is quite high, which is also the biggest factor in not overturning. Then, the starting state of the battery is 98% power, and it is estimated that it can run 638km, and finally consumes 24.5 kWh of power, and the mileage shows that it loses about 214km, so the final achievement rate is about 83%.

So, what other details are worth our attention during this live broadcast?

I was left in the car, why are I quite satisfied?

In this live broadcast test of the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version, the challenge of the urban NOA section is concentrated in the morning rush hour of Shanghai's urban area, and the driving route will pass through many busy road sections and some ordinary residential areas, which is relatively speaking, which increases the difficulty of the urban NOA function challenge of the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version. However, the final test results are not bad.

Intelligent sensing hardware has reached its peak.

This is an objective evaluation of the hardware, Xiaomi SU7 Pro version of the intelligent driving hardware, all of which are good things, and they are the best solutions that can be obtained at this price and in this level. There are two NVIDIA Orin-X chips, with a comprehensive computing power of 508TOPS, 3 millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic radars and 1 128-line lidar. So, with good hardware, what is the performance of the urban NOA made by the user, this should be the focus of users. After all, the money is spent, and if the experience is not good, the hardware is useless.

After watching the functional test of the whole urban area + high-speed NOA, my feeling for the implementation of the function is that the overall conservative strategy is to ensure that the takeover rate can be reduced and the driving experience from point A to B can be completed smoothly.

First of all, in terms of basic functions, Xiaomi's urban NOA can recognize a relatively wide range of models, in addition to common family cars, trucks, bicycles and electric motorcycles, etc., there are corresponding models, which provides a good basis for the judgment of the intelligent driving system.

Then, through the live test process, it can also be felt that Xiaomi's urban NOA can accurately identify bicycles crossing the road and vehicles that suddenly turn around, and can take "defensive" braking operations, such as reserving a certain safety distance from the car in front. Moreover, in the braking process of the live broadcast picture, there is no violent shaking, this detail can reveal a detail, that is, the process of vehicle braking is relatively delicate, not the kind of one foot on the brake to stop the car.

Another scene of the live broadcast is that the Xiaomi driven by Lu Weibing was taken over twice when it used the urban NOA. And in my opinion, it should be the conservative driving strategy that allows these takeovers to emerge. In the first case, the NOA system in the urban area identified a possible dangerous situation and then slowed down, but this slowdown was too conservative and was taken over; The second situation is that the intelligent driving planning path is inconsistent with the driver's intention. None of this seems to be a hard injury, but it may be caused by the inconsistency between the driving style of the NOA in the urban area and the driving style of the driver. However, it is worth noting that this time the urban NOA did not test the country roads, complex road sections with unclear road markings; Therefore, the NOA performance of Xiaomi urban areas in the wide urban roads that we can see is indeed "not overturned".

After that, it was stopped under high-speed NOA conditions. Judging from the live broadcast screen, the overall logic of Xiaomi's high-speed NOA is to drive in the left lane at a limited speed, and when the speed of the vehicle in front is relatively slow, it will overtake from the right, and then return to the left lane, and then change lanes to the right before approaching the off-ramp. Moreover, the overall high-speed NOA strategy, contrary to the urban NOA, is a more radical style.

And when the car is separated, the vehicle is in a long solid lane, so standing in a normal driving angle, the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version has no problems. However, if you stand in the normal driving operation, there are only two options, slow down to give up the white car overtaking space; Speed up to pass and leave room for the white car to overtake. However, intelligent driving is not yet able to distinguish whether a vehicle in an adjacent lane wants to overtake or not.

Therefore, I personally feel that this "being another car" does not mean that the high-speed NOA function is not done well, but after the front car merges in, the vehicle does not have obvious nodding, braking, etc. after braking, in fact, this also shows that to a certain extent, the details of the high-speed NOA function are handled well.

In the Pro version, charging is slower

About this live broadcast, Lei Jun probably wants to show off, the cruising range is secondary, and the most important thing is the high-speed + urban NOA function, the result is good, it was successfully completed, and the degree of function realization is quite high, and the full-stack self-developed intelligent driving function is at least stable when the car is delivered.

Then, let's talk about things other than live streaming, about batteries.

The Xiaomi SU7 Pro version also uses a lithium iron phosphate battery pack with a battery capacity of 94.3 kWh and a range of 830 km, while the entry version uses a 73.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. However, in terms of charging speed, the charging speed of the battery pack of the Pro version is slower, and the same fast charging conditions, the 94.3kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack takes 0.5h (30 minutes) and the 73.6kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack takes 0.42h (about 25 minutes). When a large battery pack is charged to 80%, it will be about 5 minutes slower than a small battery pack. Some people may think that it doesn't matter if it's 5 minutes slow, but it's also quite fast.

However, this charging speed is unreasonable.

Fast charging takes 0.5h of charging time, which means that the charging level of this car is only 2C, and the entry-level version with blade batteries, if you are more detailed, the charging level can reach 2.4C (of course, this classification is generally divided by an integer). And this also means that the CATL Shenxing battery used in the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version is not complete, but has made some adjustments in the fast charging capacity.

For reference, the fast charging time of ZEEKR 001, which also uses CATL Shenxing batteries, is only 0.19h, which is about 11.4 minutes. And this performance is in line with the performance of 4C level charging. The reason for this is that it is on the high-voltage platform; ZEEKR 001 uses Shenxing battery models, using 800V high voltage, so its maximum charging power performance is better to reach about 546kW, to achieve 4C level charging capacity, relatively speaking, it is simpler.

However, the Xiaomi SU7 Pro version still uses a 400V high-voltage system, so the Shenxing battery it uses does not reach the level of 4C, which should be due to the voltage architecture of the whole vehicle.

The reason why the Shenxing battery is used instead of the 800V architecture may be due to cost considerations. After using 400V, some adjustments may be made to the heat dissipation and thermal management of the battery pack to release more costs. From this point of view,Pro version and entry version,The difference in the battery,It's nothing more than that the former has a larger capacity,But the charging speed is lower,If you stand at the level of charging speed,2C level charging capacity,Not very Pro。
