Since 2020, the great success of the Aprilia RS 660 (one of the best-selling sports motorcycles in Europe) has completely upended the concept of middleweight sports motorcycles, and a whole new market segment has been born.
Today, the Aprilia RS 457 builds on the success of the RS 660. The model began as a new development project, conceived and developed in the R&D center where all Aprilia models, including the MotoGP race car, were born. The new Aprilia RS 457 became a transition from the 125cc model to the RS 660, enabling the connection between them. In addition to the powerful V4 superbike and the MotoGP racing RS-GP built with top technology, the RS family has welcomed a unique new member of the series, enriching the model selection of the motorcycle dream series.
The Aprilia RS 457 is designed to strike a chord with young riders and appeal to enthusiasts who want to try imitation racing motorcycles, and this model is the culmination of the brand's know-how, from design to construction, a true sporty motorcycle.
The advantages of the new model are the lightweight body design, the best power/weight ratio in its class, convenient handling and advanced technology. The ergonomic design of the motorcycle, with a split handlebar attached to the steering column upper link, is a technical solution for a road sports model that provides the best balance between brisking and comfortable riding.
The styling of the new RS 457 is inherited from the RS series, and the spirit of this legendary supersport motorcycle that has gone down in history is reflected in the design of the twin front fairings, underbody mufflers and two exhaust pipes.
The full LED headlamps show the typical light characteristics of the Aprilia Male Supersport motorcycle, and the front turn signals are also integrated. The instrument cluster features an elegant and functional 5-inch TFT color instrument cluster with backlit on/off buttons on the handlebars.
The Aprilia RS 457 is equipped with a state-of-the-art, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine with four-valve timing twin camshafts per cylinder and a maximum output of 35.5 kW. Not only is it powerful, but it also has impressive weight figures: a dry weight of just 159 kg and a full fuel tank weight of 175 kg.
The designers from Noale have gone to great lengths to achieve a better power/weight ratio and have succeeded in achieving a new level in its segment with the Aprilia RS 457. When tested on the road in Noale, the model showed surprisingly powerful performance.
The RS 457's engine is fitted with a sturdy aluminium frame, making it unique in its class. Aprilia's decades of experience honed on global circuits were used in the development of the RS 457. Borrowing from the RS 660, the crankcase is used as the load element (the engine is part of the frame) to ensure that it is lightweight, but also agile and sporty.
The front suspension features a fork with a 41 mm preload adjustment and a travel of 120 mm. The rear features a mid-mounted single shock absorber paired with a steel monojib, which also has adjustable preload and a suspension travel of 130mm. The braking system is equipped with 320 mm diameter discs and four-piston calipers at the front and 220 mm diameter steel discs at the rear. In addition, the RS 457 is equipped with a dual-channel ABS system that assists with braking on both the front and rear wheels, or only on the front wheels, enabling two modes of use.
The 110/70 and 150/60 tyres at the front and rear, both with 17-inch sports wheels – a combination of sizes that allow the car to provide excellent grip while maintaining agility underlines the strengths of the new Aprilia.
The Aprilia RS 457's electronic controls further reflect the vehicle's true sportiness, staying true to the brand's heritage and satisfying the needs of all types of riders. The product is equipped with an electronic throttle-by-wire system, which Aprilia was the first to use in the MotoGP RS Cube as well as in production models. The system manages the engine through three riding modes, allowing for a combination of different power, torque and traction controls, which can be flexibly turned on and off. A quick-shift function is optional.
The Aprilia RS 457 is available in three colours, including Chromatic Ink, Striped Black, and Flare White.
