Regarding Han Meilin's works, in the early 80s of the last century, I saw them on the walls of some friends' living rooms or studies one after another, most of them were small animals, painted on hard paper, fluffy and cute. Although it is a sketch, Zhang Zhang's colors are bright, elegant and smart. There is the human affection of Qi Baishi's pen, but it is closer to the world than Qi Baishi's, and there are civilians in the streets and alleys, which is as cordial as a fish drinking water and knowing its own warmth. When I arrived to participate in the inauguration ceremony of the Han Meilin Art Museum in Hangzhou, I saw the whole picture of Han Meilin's art for the first time. Later, whether it was the opening of the Han Meilin Art Museum in Beijing or the large-scale exhibition of works held at the National Museum, it felt like entering a sea of art.

The study of Han Meilin and his works has now become a prominent figure in the Chinese art world. For example, if a mountain peak, the mountain stands there, and there will always be climbers rushing to try it. But what about the living beings at the foot of the mountain? They looked at the mountain from near or far, and they were full of feelings, and the various emotions and feelings surging in their hearts were just as precious. In fact, when it comes to professional art reserves, there is never a shortage of ready-made theories and concepts, but if you can't convince yourself, how can you rely on them to communicate with Han Meilin and make peace with each other? From this point of view, ordinary people who are not professionals have another advantage: they are not bound by any theoretical concepts, but they go straight to their hearts and enter Han Meilin with their human nature and feelings.
Han Meilin is undoubtedly unique in today's art world. He straddles the fields of painting, calligraphy, sculpture and design, covering a wide range of fields, complex forms, and unbridled volumes of works. But what I like more is that he is free and unbridled in the face of creative spontaneity. All kinds of different artistic categories, all kinds of unwritten disciplines, have never been iron laws for him, let alone insurmountable restrictions! He just blindly ignored it, coming and going, as if entering a no-man's land, Gu Zi reaped the joy that belonged to him, and left a unique and distinctive Korean imprint along the way, which people can easily forget when they see it.
When confronted with Merrill Lynch's art, I often think of the word "world". His creations can afford the vastness of the "world", and also let people appreciate the subtleties and complexities of the "world". From mountains, rivers, sun and moon, to birds, beasts, grass carp, the world is everywhere, but there is only one. Merrill Lynch's art, no matter how casual the cross-border is, no matter how different the forms are, the sound of the whirling there can only be his. It is said that Merrill Lynch's art is amazing, there are thousands of postures in the word "Yan", Han Meilin has only one, and his art has a rare sense of wholeness, just like the world. At this moment, the cold winter in the north is slaughtered, and it is covered in silver, but once the spring breeze is absent, the spring light instantly infiltrates the heaven and the earth. Merrill Lynch also permeates his art world. Some people describe him as an "art kingdom", and Merrill Lynch is silent. Some people have long said that he is the "world", Merrill Lynch smiled faintly and replied, "The world is big enough". I also speak of "the world" here, but I specifically refer to Merrill Lynch's art as a vast spring, boundless and uninhibited vitality.

Han Meilin's art seems to have no sect, no school, and even no king and no father, neither can find a teacher, nor is it difficult to be included in the orderly genealogy, like an elf born out of nowhere. He was born in an authentic academic class, in the face of thousands of years of spreading artistic traditions, countless classics towering like mountains, if you say inheritance, how many elites in front of him, crawling forward on the rugged and narrow artistic path, exhausted the strength of his life! But he sees tradition as a "hoop": "I've been holding it in since I was in school, and I'm going to get rid of the academy thing, and I'm going to get out of there and take a breath!" What insight and insight this is! What courage and understanding! He simply crossed the long history of art and went straight to the source of art, the soil with the most abundant vitality of human life, and connected his own artistic life. Not only did he hit it off with ancient art, he was simply fascinated by it, instinctively embracing it, sinking into it, becoming one with it. Once his art is connected to the source of creation, it is also connected to the lifeblood of mankind and the vitality of heaven and earth. So one life is two, two is three, and three is everything, and ancient art not only inspires him, but also nurtures him, his art begins to grow freely, and his world begins to flourish.
I say "generation" because, in the first instance, every day of artistic creation is "Genesis". According to historical legend, Pangu opened the world, chaos gave birth to Qiankun, and there were the sun, moon, mountains and rivers of the Chinese nation. In the same way, it was the strong vitality of the ancestors that made art come into existence from scratch and opened up the process of human civilization. Imagine, the ancestors carved the first line on the rock of Helan Mountain, how could they think that this is a carving or a painting? Is there a tangle between realism and romanticism? Why do you care about beauty or ugliness? It's just that the heart is moved, not vomiting or unhappy, blindly painting and carving, and then looking forward to self-pride and self-satisfaction. All our art theories and concepts, all experiences and rules, and even the entire history of art are nothing more than the accumulation and refinement of the "Book of Genesis". It would be a big mistake to think that this is creation. Only the free and freewheeling vitality, the unbridled imagination and creativity, is the only source of creation. Han Meilin is naturally weed-like, unrestrained and unstereotyped, and instinctively wears away from any discipline and fetters, which is the unique endowment of a natural artist. It is difficult to explain his art with ready-made theories, and it is even more difficult to generalize the laws. His whimsical and free-spirited actions, his exaggerated deformation and bright and resolute, and his charm everywhere like mercury are all the things that should happen to artistic creation.
The art of the ancestors is naïve but lively, and it is full of vitality; There is no technology to speak of, but the expression is complete. For they have a fullness in their hearts, which looms in the heavens and the earth. Therefore, Lao Tzu has clouds: the Tao is a thing, but it is in a trance; In a trance, there is an elephant in it; In a trance, there is something in it. We are accustomed to saying that the form is the same as the God, the form refers to the object, and the object can only see the vitality by the fullness of the image. "God-likeness" is the manifestation of "image" through "thing", and it is the perfect arrival of image to thing. The Chinese call the sun and the moon the sun and the moon, the light is the object, but the color is the image, with the image, the thing has a poetic meaning. Painting a flower is not a skill, the flower must be drawn to "open" to see charming, the flower is the image of the flower. Merrill Lynch is like the ancestors, and the image in his heart is surging like a pool of spring water, which must overflow all the time. He often goes to the studio when his heart moves, thinking about painting, but a word comes out of his pen; His mind was blank even when he faced the blank paper, but as soon as the pen went up, everything kept coming. He can only do what he wants, and "neurotic" is generally driven by it. He said that what is surging in his heart is "God", "beauty", and "passion", of course, he is right. But in fact, it was the image in his heart that was rushing left and right, looking for a way out, so that he could not be at peace for a while, and could only go with the flow. This is also the norm for a creative genius. Meilin's art, in this way, is endless, self-growing, starting from the source of civilization of the primitive people, connecting the Helan Mountains and the Dunhuang Caves, connecting the stone carvings in front of Huo Quai's tomb, and then in the Song Dynasty, it soars and renews the history of art today. The disadvantages of literati painting after the Song Dynasty were falling from creation to the afterglow of literati, and Merrill did not like it.
