With the COVID-19 pandemic still uncontrolled, the Broadway Alliance announced that the theater would remain closed until August 2021, and the musical "The Music Man," which had been rehearsing for a long time, adjusted its schedule.

The musical "Joyful Music," starring Tony Award winners Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster, is scheduled to begin rehearsals at the Winter Garden Theatre on December 20, 2021, and will be officially performed on February 10, 2022.
In March 2019, the crew announced that the show would begin on September 9, 2020. In June, three months after Broadway closed, the producers announced that they would postpone the time to May 20, 2021. According to the latest announcement from the Broadway League, the show had to be postponed again.
In addition to Harold Hill, played by Jackman, and Marianne Paru, played by Foster, the announced cast includes Mrs. Sheehan played by Jayne Hodyshel, Mayor Sheehan played by Jefferson May, Marcellus Washburn played by Shuler Hansley, and Mrs. Paru played by Mary Mullen.
