According to Canon's official description, the EOS R1 is a professional mirrorless camera, like the existing EOS R3, it adopts a square camera shape, and the custom buttons on the front of the body reach two groups of four, which cope with horizontal and vertical shooting respectively, and the body has high durability and reliability, and improves photo and video performance (compared to EOS R3). The newly developed DIGIC Accelerator acceleration processor was added to the machine, which combined the existing DIGIC X digital image processor and the newly developed CMOS image sensor to form the camera image processing system, but Canon did not mention the camera pixels or continuous shooting speed.

Stronger AI recognition is a major improvement of the EOS R1, Canon says that the image processing system is closely integrated with deep learning technology to achieve high-speed, high-precision subject recognition, with the "action priority" function of autofocus, the AF point will automatically switch to the player at the moment of a player's shot, or in a team match, when an athlete passes in front of the subject, the camera AF will not be disturbed. The system also improves image quality by bringing computer-based noise reduction to the camera. Currently, Canon is field-tested with a propulsion camera.
