Under all kinds of hype and flattery in the media, the public has always thought that Elon Musk, the founder and CEO of Tesla, is a superman similar to Iron Man. But many facts prove that he may be more like a "boy who doesn't grow up" who acts willfully and does not think about the consequences.
Do you still remember some time ago, Tesla's big layoffs that caused a sensation around the world? On the bright side, Tesla announced a 10% layoff due to the continuous decline in sales. But in fact, the rate of layoffs is more than 30%, and some core departments have even been laid off. Even the best performers at the Shanghai Gigafactory were not spared, and domestic sales jobs were the hardest hit by layoffs.
However, perhaps because of the layoffs to the main artery, Tesla's layoff operation has ushered in a turnaround.
On April 29, after Musk announced the layoff of about 500 employees in Tesla's supercharging team, overseas media revealed that Tesla had rehired some employees, but did not announce the number of employees hired.
Previously, Musk said that more than $500 million would be spent in 2024 to expand his network of Superchargers, including thousands of new charging stations by the end of the year. Later, he reversed his word, saying that the company would build charging piles at a slower speed, and pay more attention to the operation of charging piles that have been built so far.
In this way, these employees who were laid off and rehired are equivalent to receiving a severance compensation for nothing.
It is reported that it is not uncommon for Musk to regret such an impulsive operation. In 2019, he announced that Tesla would close most of its stores and move sales online, a move that caught many sales team members off guard. However, Musk then reversed the decision and raised the price of the model to balance the cost of increasing sales in physical stores.
At the end of 2022, after Musk bought Twitter, he also laid off about half of the old employees, but it didn't take long for dozens of core employees to be invited back to the company.
Therefore, don't worry, the former Tesla friends who were affected in this layoff turmoil, maybe a few days later, Tesla will call you to return to work again. It's just like you're taking a paid vacation.
