Firecrackers are set off, and the atmosphere is created.

On May 15, 2024, the eighth day of the fourth month of the first lunar year, Guangzhou and the Pearl River Delta region officially entered the "Dragon Boat Season".

The big villages with strong dragon boat culture in the urban area of Guangzhou started dragon boats yesterday morning, and the noise of gongs and drums will continue until the Dragon Boat Festival next month.

"Raising the dragon" is an important part of dragon boat culture. The traditional dragon boat is made of Pontianak wood, the material is hard and heavy, strong and corrosion-resistant, but it is not suitable for long-term wind and sun, and it will be more solid and easier to preserve when immersed in water.

Before the "dragon", a traditional blessing ceremony is carried out to pray for good weather and peace for the country and the people. When the auspicious time came, the firecrackers rang out, the father and the elder beat the drum of the dragon boat, and the powerful drum resounded in all directions. The "riders" who participated in the "dragon" went into the water together, and the scene was enthusiastic.

Pantang Village, Liwan

The dragon is a performance, and the colorful flags flutter on Liwan Lake

A total of 4 Pantang dragon boats were "awakened" that day, including about 3 Pantang Shou 2 3 and about 400 years old "Old Dragon" Renwei No. 1 boat. Among them, there are 2 traditional dragons and 1 medium dragon; Pantang four about 1 traditional dragon. The Pantang Five Dragons will be scheduled for May 18, when there will also be 3 traditional dragons, and 2 fiberglass dragons with 12 people.

Tianhe Shipai Village (Shuanggang Qilong)

"Rising dragons" in different places, witnessing the deep emotions of the two villages for 20 years

Why is the location of "Qilong" in Shipai Village not Shipai Village, but Shuanggang Village, Huangpu District, 20 kilometers away? Behind the "dragon" in different places, in fact, is the friendship between villages to help each other.

Shipai Village is located in the center of Tianhe CBD in Guangzhou, when Guangzhou City built Zhujiang New Town, Shipai Chung and nearby land was expropriated, and there was no suitable river chong in the village to house dragon boats. Unwilling to see the traditional culture interrupted because of this, the villagers of Shipai borrowed land to "raise the dragon" and "hide the dragon" in Shuanggang Village, Huangpu, the "old table" every year. Although the two villages are geographically far apart, they have maintained close ties and deep affection for a long time. This loan has been borrowed for more than 20 years.

Tianhe Liede Village

Next to the high-rise buildings in Zhujiang New Town, 12 dragon boats went out of the water smoothly

As early as two days ago, the village had opened the sluice gates in advance to release water. At the scene of the ceremony, I saw that the dragon boats on the Tibetan Dragon Pond were neatly arranged, revealing the bow and stern, and several young adults were cleaning the hull.

It is reported that this year, there are a total of 12 dragon boats in Liede Village, including red dragons, flower dragons, five-color dragons, and a long-established "champion" golden dragon.
