In recent years, the domestic chip industry has been booming, and many manufacturers have continued to break through technical bottlenecks, and the latest domestic GPU has come out, with performance comparable to AMD veterans, causing industry shocks, and a new king is expected to be born. In this wave, the second-generation graphics processor GP201 independently developed by Wuhan Lingjiu Microelectronics Co., Ltd. was officially mass-produced and listed, marking a major breakthrough in the domestic chip industry.
The first domestic GPU was mass-produced, breaking the foreign monopoly
Lingjiuwei GP201 is the first full-featured GPU chip to achieve mass production in China, breaking the monopoly of foreign countries. It is manufactured on a 7nm process, with a core frequency of up to 1200MHz, support for dynamic frequency modulation, a maximum memory capacity of 32GB, and a data transfer rate of up to 4266Mbps. This chip has a single-precision floating-point computing power of 1.2 Tflops, supports 4K 60Hz high-resolution display output, supports new video decoding formats such as H.265/H.264, and can support up to full HD 4K@60fps decoding.
Ling Jiuwei said that GP201 is stronger than AMD's E8860 embedded graphics card launched in 2014 in many aspects such as 3D performance, 2D polygon drawing, ellipse drawing, pixel and image shifting, window drawing, and application support for OpenCL library localization platform. The E8860 uses 2GB GDDR5 video memory, 128-bit video memory bit width, and power consumption of 37W, while the GP201 has a maximum power consumption of only 30W, which has a higher energy efficiency ratio.
GP201 supports all domestic CPUs including Loongson, Feiteng, Shenwei, Haiguang, and Kunpeng, and supports mainstream domestic operating systems such as Kirin, UnionTech UOS, Zhongbiao Kirin, and Galaxy Kirin, achieving seamless compatibility with the domestic ecosystem. At present, five different forms of graphics card products, including full-height, half-height and MXM, have been launched to meet the needs of various application scenarios.
The energy efficiency ratio is leading, and a variety of product lines will be launched
The biggest advantage of Lingjiuwei GP201 is its excellent energy efficiency performance. It comes in a 37.5mm×37.5mm FCBGA2112 package, with a power consumption of only 10W~30W, which can be dynamically adjusted according to the load, and the energy efficiency ratio is improved by nearly 25% compared with AMD E8860.
GP201 supports PCIe 3.0 x16 bus interface, DDR4, LPDDR4, LPDDR4X and other memory types, and supports up to 32GB capacity. It is compatible with IBM VGA and VESA standards, supports graphics APIs such as OpenGL 4.0, OpenCL 1.2/3.0 and OpenGL ES 3.2, supports 4-channel TMDS, 4-channel DP/eDP, 2-channel DVO and 1-channel VGA and other display interfaces, with a maximum resolution of 3840x2160@60Hz.
Lingjiuwei said that more GPU product lines will be launched in the future, including the MXN series for AI inference, the MXC series for scientific computing and AI training, and the MXG series for graphics rendering, to meet the needs of data centers for high-performance, energy-efficient and high-versatility computing power.
AMD veterans may be hit hard, and a new king is expected to be born
The advent of Lingjiu Micro GP201 marks a breakthrough in the domestic chip industry from scratch, and the dominance of foreign manufacturers such as AMD in the domestic market may be impacted.
