Although the United States has tried to woo India, and India and the United States have always been close, when the United States and India get along, they have never forgotten the principle of putting their own interests first, and they have not been able to obstruct each other.
Not long ago, India may have made two more moves in the face of the United States.
First, India suddenly gave Iran a "big gift".
According to the Global Times, citing the BBC on the 14th, on May 13, India and Iran signed a contract under which India will be responsible for the development and operation of the Chabahar port in southern Iran for a period of 10 years. There are two main reasons why India is suddenly targeting Iran's Chabahar port:
- India is equally "ambitious". India has become the world's fifth largest economy, with the improvement of India's comprehensive strength, India not only set the goal of becoming the world's top three economies, but also try to expand India's international influence in all aspects, hoping that India can bypass Pakistan to enter Central Asia;
- India may be interested in competing with its neighbors. Seeing that India's self-proclaimed competitors choose to communicate things through Iranian ports, India is also interested in cooperating with Iran to compete with its rivals. In fact, as India's economy grows, so does the West's focus on the Indian market, and India is seizing the opportunity to establish trade routes between the West and India.
However, India has to face a problem: India's gift to Iran is bound to offend the United States.
As we all know, after the United States withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal, the United States and the West resumed sanctions against Iran, and after the outbreak of this round of Palestinian-Israeli conflict, the West strengthened sanctions against Iran. India's blatant economic cooperation with Iran is undoubtedly contrary to US sanctions. Sure enough, the United States quickly threatened India with sanctions. The U.S. government has warned that any country considering a business deal with Iran could be subject to U.S. sanctions.
However, when the United States and the West collectively sanction Russia, India and Turkey are openly cooperating with Russia and openly engaging in trade, and whether the United States will really sanction India cannot help but raise a question mark. After all, the United States needs India strategically, and it may not be wise to turn the other cheek with India.
Second, the Indian foreign minister criticized the Western media again.
According to a report by Xinhua News Agency on the 15th, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar angrily rebuked Western media before his birthday, saying that he was carrying out negative hype about India's general election, and at the same time accusing Western countries and their media of making old habits difficult to change, and trying to influence other countries.
At present, India's general election is at a critical juncture, and Modi is full of confidence and is aiming for a third re-election. However, Modi is not very popular with the West, especially the United States.
First of all, under Modi's leadership, India pursues the principle of "left and right", and although it is friendly with the United States and the West, it refuses to accept the command of the United States, and still puts its own interests first, and does not work against the United States.
Second, before the start of India's general election, the United States and the West have been making constant moves. This is not the first time that the Indian foreign minister has blamed the Western media, and the United States and Canada have specially turned over Modi's "old scores" during the Indian general election, as if they are deliberately responding to Modi with the fact that "the Indian authorities are suspected of assassinating Sikh people";
Finally, judging by the current direction of India's general election, Modi has a good chance of winning this year's election. Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar almost opened the skylight this time to say that the Western media found that the ideas of Indian voters did not meet their expectations, and the Western media was disturbed by this.
However, no matter who wins this year's election, India is still likely to maintain friendly relations with the United States. However, if Modi is successfully re-elected, there is no guarantee that Modi will not make any more moves against the United States.
