Jaguar's all-electric GT will launch in the U.S. later this year, according to European Automotive News, which spoke to CEO Adrian Mardell on Friday. Details of the GT have yet to be announced, and Mader is tight-lipped, but he revealed that the U.S. version will start at more than $125,000.
The model's goal is to push Jaguar further into the premium segment, away from the mid-range luxury brands that have been targeted for the past decade, such as the E-Pace. The new model is aimed at brands such as Porsche and Bentley, turning around their brand image. There is a good chance that the new Jaguar will make its debut at an event in the United States, the Pebble Beach Race or the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Jaguar says the model will be completely different from the competitor's offerings. "Customers salivate when they see the product. I am convinced of that". The company says it is inspired by previous Jaguar models, such as the E-Type, and the car will perform very well thanks to the new Jaguar Electrification Architecture (JEA) platform.
The power has not yet been officially announced, but chief creative officer Gerry McGovern commented earlier that it can travel up to 692 kilometers on a single charge. He also said that the special edition models will be an important part of raising pricing and pushing the brand into the higher-end luxury market. The GT will be in production soon after its release, with deliveries starting in 2025.
Jaguar has laid out plans for future electrification, which include three all-electric models. It plans to launch electric vehicles to replace its past gasoline offerings, such as the F-Type coupe and the XF and XE sedans. The development of these future models is likely to be helped by Chinese automaker Chery, which Jaguar has been working with since 2012.
