In April this year, the Chinese crested tern research team of Zhejiang Natural Museum, together with the management departments of Xiangshan, Jiushan Islands and Nanji Islands National Marine Nature Reserve, recruited a group of volunteers for the short-term experience of the "two days and one night" project site for the first time - habitat preparation volunteers. This feeling is believed to be real. Such volunteer recruitment abroad has long been the case. Many of them have the meaning of packaging, publicity and marketing, so they are quite eye-catching. In fact, to remove some gimmicks, in some nature reserves, spots, uninhabited islands such as Bird Island, or more observation and scientific research institutions, it is possible to recruit a certain number of volunteers on a regular basis to experience, and even form a long-term and short-term combination of volunteer experience system, which may be an innovation in science dissemination and popularization. This kind of system can not only allow more people to participate in the action of nature conservation, gain growth and insight through actual experience, and enhance scientific awareness, environmental awareness, and public welfare awareness, but also provide necessary help and support for protected areas, at least through their experience and testimonials, can further expand the public awareness and social value of relevant institutions. At present, many of these protected areas and observation points are not suitable for large-scale opening to the outside world due to their protection functions, so their functions are very simple. Judging from the actual situation, on the premise of complying with the relevant legal system, it is possible to recruit volunteers in a targeted manner. Doing so will be of great benefit to both scientific research institutions and the public.
The news disclosed by Chao News is a good case. Inspired by this case, I believe that a long-term and short-term volunteer experience system can be implemented, and long-term volunteer positions can be set up to attract those who have a strong interest in nature conservation and have a more flexible schedule. There is also a short-term volunteer experience program for those who are short on time but want to contribute to nature conservation. This not only meets the needs of different types of volunteers, but also allows more people to participate in nature conservation actions. From a practical point of view, different types of volunteer positions can be set up, so that volunteers can choose the right positions according to their interests and professional backgrounds, such as ecological protection, environmental education, scientific research assistance, etc. This not only meets the needs of the reserve, but also allows volunteers to give full play to their strengths and increase their enthusiasm to participate. As long as we do a good job in recruiting, training, managing, and motivating volunteers in accordance with the law, I believe that this system will definitely achieve very good results.
