Hesai Technology, a Chinese supplier of autonomous driving technology, sued the U.S. Department of Defense

Today, Hesai Technology Co., Ltd., a developer of sensor technology for autonomous vehicles, sued the U.S. Department of Defense for placing the company on a "blacklist." According to a complaint filed by the Shanghai-based company in federal court in Washington on the 13th, being included in the so-called 1260H list has caused it to "damage its reputation, a significant drop in its stock price, and the loss of some business opportunities."

It is reported that Hesai Technology provides lidar technology in self-driving cars, which is used to help avoid collisions. In April, U.S. lawmakers urged the Pentagon to ban cars containing Chinese-produced technology, such as lidar, from entering U.S. military bases.

Hesai insists that it only designs and manufactures products for commercial and residential use. The company also said its presence on the list disrupted its plans to build a manufacturing facility in the United States.

Hesai Technology went public on the NASDAQ early last year. The company asked a U.S. court to order the Department of Defense to provide reasons for putting the company on the list. According to the lawsuit, the U.S. Department of Defense "did not give Hesai any opportunity to warning, explanation, or defense before adding Hesai to the list."
