On May 11, the 2nd International Conference on Infant Development and Childcare, jointly sponsored by the Hangzhou Municipal Health Commission and Hangzhou Normal University, was held at Hangzhou Normal University. More than 360 experts and scholars in related fields from the United States, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Japan, mainland China and other countries gathered together to discuss and exchange research issues on infant development and childcare in the new era.
With the theme of "Infant and Child Development: Health, Nurturing and Care", the conference set up 12 sub-venues and 9 master's and doctoral forums, including early childhood development, theory and practice of infant and toddler care services, high-quality population development and long-term infant and toddler care.
Liang Xiaoge, a third-level researcher of the Family Division of the Department of Population and Family of the National Health Commission, pointed out that in recent years, the development of childcare services in mainland China has achieved positive results, but the problem of unbalanced and insufficient development of childcare work is still prominent, and there are still a large number of families whose childcare needs have not been met. He stressed that early childhood development is the cornerstone of the country's long-term development, which has become a universal consensus in the international community. Childcare service is the basic project of life-cycle service management, and it is also an important guarantee to promote the all-round development of people. The concept of childcare in the new era has changed, calling for high-quality childcare. It is necessary to increase the supply capacity of childcare places in various forms, reduce the cost of childcare services through various channels, improve the quality of childcare services in a variety of ways, and publicize and improve the influence of childcare services.
Fang Jianguo, Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of the Hangzhou Municipal Health Commission, pointed out that infant development and childcare are linked to the well-being of all families and the future of the nation. The Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government attach great importance to the healthy development of infants and young children, actively build an inclusive, high-quality and balanced infant and child care service system, and continue to promote the inclusive development from "early childhood education" to "early childhood education". In 2023, Hangzhou was awarded the first batch of infant and child care service demonstration cities in China, and at the end of the year, it was approved as a demonstration project for the development of inclusive childcare services supported by the central government. In the next step, Hangzhou will closely follow the three keys of "convenient, affordable, and good" to create a convenient, safe, scientific and multi-level inclusive childcare service system, escort the healthy growth of infants and young children, and "contribute to the development of the motherland's population and health".
Professor Su Yanjie, chairman of the Chinese Psychological Society, said that Hangzhou Normal University has disciplinary and professional advantages, especially school psychology focuses on children's development and mental health, and carries out heart-brain medical education from psychological development to brain development to behavioral intervention. This kind of cross-integration research is exactly in line with the research and practice of infant and toddler development.
The conference also officially launched the "International Infant Industry-University-Research Inclusion Program". The plan will bring together the scientific research and intellectual resources of universities, scientific research institutes, hospitals and other units around the world and the two-way integration and innovation of infant industry enterprises, effectively promote "good education for young children", and help improve the new quality productivity of the infant industry.
