"The Last Step" is Xianning's first major revolutionary historical film, which was filmed by the National Film Administration in July 2022, jointly produced by Hubei Image Network Media Co., Ltd. and Liehai Digital Cinema (Beijing) Co., Ltd., and directed and filmed by Xianning director Ge Chifei, based on the revolutionary deeds of 100 heroes and exemplary figures and Communist Party members He Gongwei martyrs who made outstanding contributions before the founding of New China.

On July 6, 1938, He Gongwei was dispatched by the Hubei Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China to return to his hometown Xianning to serve as the secretary of the Special Committee of Hunan, leading the establishment and development of anti-Japanese armed forces in response to the Battle of Wuhan. At the beginning of 1941, He Gongwei, secretary of the Hunan and Hubei Border Committee of the Communist Party of China, was ordered to stick to Enshi and carry out an underground struggle, but was unfortunately arrested due to the betrayal of a traitor. During his more than 10 months in prison, He Gongwei withstood the temptation and torture of the enemy, and He Gongwei, who was not yet 26 years old, bravely took the last 109 steps without hesitation.

According to reports, in order to restore the glorious storyline of He Gongwei's life as truly as possible, from 2020 onwards, director Ge Chifei organized the main creative staff to Xian'an, Yichang, Enshi and other places where He Gongwei's martyrs once studied, worked, and fought, visited the masses, consulted historical materials, and explored the relics and relics of the ruins. During the filming, the crew strictly selected the filming location, customized some real props, and borrowed some of the books used by the martyrs, kerosene lamps and other living objects from the Xianning Museum.

There are more than 120 film cast and crew, with a strong lineup, and Liu Xu, a national first-class actor of Nanjing Drama Theater, and Ye Xinyu, a national first-class actor of Hangzhou Drama Theater, are invited to play important roles in many red movie themes, and Yan Weidong, a professor at Wuhan Conservatory of Music, plays the martyr He Gongwei.

The filming locations of the film crew in Xian'an this time also include the former residence of the martyr He Gongwei in Baidun Village, Guihua Town, and Hangbang Mountain in Guihua Village; Lvxian Cave, Taiping Village, Tingsiqiao Town, Zhoujiawan, Gutian Village; Maqiao Town Rural Memory Museum, Qian Yishi's Former Residence, Fengcun Village; The former residence of Shen Hongbin, Taiyi Village, Fushan Street, etc. Xian'an cadres actively cooperated and supported the crew, providing costumes and other filming materials for the crew; Some cadres "incarnate" extras and are expected to appear on the big screen.

It is reported that "The Last Step" started shooting in He Gongwei Martyrs Cemetery on October 13 last year, and is expected to be completed by the end of May this year, and strive to be released in theaters nationwide by the end of the year.

Previously, the martyr He Gongwei's deeds had been filmed into a micro-film "The Last Step", which won the best work award in the "Ideal Shines on China - Hubei Province Celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China Online Audiovisual Competition".
