This disease is more dangerous than a heart attack! Receiving three patients in 10 minutes has one thing in common!

author:Emergency doctor Da Liu

"Within 10 minutes, three patients with the same disease came to the emergency department, and this disease is more dangerous than a heart attack, and they all have one thing in common!" On May 12, Gao Wei, an attending physician of emergency surgery at Miyun Hospital of Peking University First Hospital, shared his work experience on his personal WeChat public account and reminded everyone to manage hypertension!

Received 3 patients,

They all have one thing in common

Dr. Gao Wei said that in less than 10 minutes at the triage desk of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, he saw that three patients with aortic dissection had been sent by ambulance, which was more dangerous than a heart attack. All three patients had a common feature – a history of hypertension.

Dr. Gao Wei pointed out that one of the patients he treated, who was very fat, was taken to the hospital and his blood pressure was about 110/70 on the left limb and 70/30 on the right side. The blood pressure difference between the two sides is obviously unequal, and the D-2 mer has more than 40,000 high suspicion of aneurysm or aortic dissection.

Dr. Gao Wei said that many patients do not pay attention to their blood pressure, and they do not care if their blood pressure is high and there is no obvious discomfort. It's actually really dangerous! High blood pressure is equivalent to a bicycle tire always pumping, once there is a weak point, it will become thinner little by little, and it may burst at any time, just like cerebral blood vessels, cerebral hemorrhage may occur.

The danger of aortic dissection should not be underestimated!

Aortic dissection, a term that may be unfamiliar to many people, can be as dangerous as it can be.

Sun Zhichao, director of the vascular intervention department of Zhejiang Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, published an article on the hospital's WeChat public account in April 2024 to introduce that this is a serious cardiovascular disease, and its danger even exceeds that of myocardial infarction. In layman's terms, it is "bursting blood vessels"! Once it erupts, the consequences are unimaginable.

The aorta, the main blood vessel that starts from the heart, is responsible for carrying blood throughout the body. Its structure resembles that of a "sandwich" and consists of three layers: the inner membrane, the middle membrane, and the outer membrane. In some cases, the lining may rupture due to the lesion, at which point high-pressure blood flow rushes into the tear, tearing the blood vessel wall apart like a sugar cane, creating a new cavity called "dissection".

Dr. Sun Zhichao said that hypertension, atherosclerosis, and Marfan syndrome (a hereditary aortic lesion in which the elastic fibers in the middle of the large arteries are underdeveloped and easily ruptured) are the main causes of aortic dissection. Among them, hypertension is the most typical, and the vast majority of patients with aortic dissection have hypertension, and they generally have a history of hypertension for many years at the time of onset. ②

Zhang Minzhou, chief physician of the Department of Intensive Care Medicine of Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, reminded in an article on the hospital's WeChat public account in 2023 that aortic dissection is closely related to hypertension and aortic sclerosis. Once the blood vessel wall ruptures, the dissection "bursts", and the patient dies due to massive bleeding. ③

Zheng Qijun, Department of Cardiac and Vascular Surgery, Shenzhen People's Hospital, pointed out in an article in the Health Daily in 2023 that when the body has the following symptoms, it is necessary to be alert to aortic dissection: sudden severe pain in the chest, back, waist or abdomen, and the pain is tearing or knife-like; Sweating profusely, feeling like you're dying, etc. ④

This disease is very dangerous, and we can't delay, wait, or endure it, and if we wait to see it, we will lose our chance to survive. Therefore, once you have unexplained symptoms such as chest pain and abdominal pain, you should seek medical attention immediately so as not to miss the golden time for treatment.

High blood pressure is not controlled, harming organs throughout the body

For high blood pressure, what we can see is an increase in blood pressure when it is measured. But in places that we "can't see", high blood pressure is quietly "indiscriminately attacking" the blood vessels of the whole body.

Liu Jian, chief physician of the Department of Cardiology of Peking University People's Hospital, introduced in his personal WeChat public account in April 2024 that the harm of hypertension to the human body is not only reflected in the increase in blood pressure, but also in the damage of hypertension to the blood vessels of the whole body, which can cause damage to the heart, brain, kidneys, eyes and other organs. ⑤

Health Times Chart

1. High blood pressure damages the heart

As mentioned earlier, high blood pressure can promote atherosclerosis, and when atherosclerosis occurs in the coronary arteries, it can cause coronary artery stenosis, cause myocardial ischemia, and lead to coronary heart disease.

In addition, long-term high blood pressure will gradually increase the burden on the heart, and the ventricles need to pump blood with greater force, and over time, the ventricles will become hypertrophied and dilated, resulting in left ventricular hypertrophy. Due to changes in the structure of the heart muscle, mitral valve regurgitation, aortic regurgitation, and decreased pumping function of the heart may occur, leading to heart failure (heart failure).

2. High blood pressure damages the brain

High blood pressure can also cause intracranial atherosclerosis, causing narrowing of the intracranial arteries, which can lead to a transient ischemic attack, and once the atheroma ruptures, thrombosis, clogging the cerebral blood vessels, can lead to ischemic stroke, that is, cerebral infarction.

Cerebrovascular disease, which is more closely related to high blood pressure, is hemorrhagic stroke, also known as cerebral hemorrhage. Long-term hypertension will lead to gradual hardening and brittleness of cerebral arteries, which is prone to rupture of blood vessels, resulting in cerebral hemorrhage.

3. High blood pressure damages the kidneys

Hypertension lasts for 5~10 years, and kidney damage can occur, that is, hypertensive nephropathy.

The human kidneys are full of blood vessels, and when blood pressure rises, the blood vessel walls become thicker and the lumen of the blood vessels become smaller and smaller. As a result, blood flow to the kidneys decreases, toxin filtration from the body decreases, and the kidneys may experience ischemic atrophy and may even progress to uremia.

4. High blood pressure damages the eyes

High blood pressure can damage the fundus arteries, causing retinal arteriole sclerosis, retinal edema, hemorrhage and exudation, resulting in vision loss and even blindness in severe cases.

It can be seen that high blood pressure is very harmful to health, so it should be actively prevented. Once hypertension develops, lifestyle interventions should be aggressive, including a low-sodium and high-potassium diet (but potassium supplementation is not recommended), a reasonable diet, weight control, non-smoking, alcohol restriction, increased exercise, psychological balance, and sleep management.

Medications should be used if necessary to keep blood pressure within safe levels. In particular, it is important to note that high blood pressure cannot be ignored with or without symptoms.

At the same time, people with high blood pressure should also improve their lifestyle to prevent the occurrence of hypertension.
