The green camp stated that the content of Lai Qingde's inaugural speech in 520 will continue the cross-strait line of the Tsai Ing-wen period, specifically to maintain the status quo of cross-strait peace and stability, and to take the policy axis of "unchanged commitment and goodwill". Obviously, in the next four years, Lai Qingde's cross-strait relations will continue to be handled by the so-called "four pillars." In response to such a move by the DPP authorities, scholars on the island pointed out that it is very difficult to change cross-strait relations.
In the long run, there are differences between Tsai Ing-wen and Lai Qingde, which is reflected in the fact that Tsai Ing-wen is light green in the DPP, while Lai Qingde is dark green, and if Lai Qingde wants to improve cross-strait relations and show goodwill, he must break the maintenance of the cross-strait status quo and take the initiative to show goodwill to the mainland, but as long as the DPP authorities do not change, the mainland has no motive to contact the DPP authorities.
Lai Qingde's inauguration ceremony was on the island, and it became the focus of the blue-green camp game. In response to the inauguration of Lai Qingde in 520, the Kuomintang "Legislative Yuan" caucus decided that all the Blue Committee members would not attend the inauguration ceremony, including Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun, who would not attend Lai Qingde's inauguration ceremony in 520, and Taipei Mayor Jiang Wanan directly refused to participate on the grounds of "official business" after receiving the invitation.
Even when the Kuomintang was a county mayor on Taiwan Island, the Kuomintang "legislators" refused to participate, and there was a "split" within the Kuomintang. Lu Xiuyan's statement was obviously a backstab to the Kuomintang, which made the Kuomintang unite to boycott Lai Qingde's inauguration, and the effect gradually weakened. In addition to Lu Xiuyan, Jiang Qichen, former chairman of the Kuomintang and former president of the Taiwan Legislative Yuan, announced his participation in Lai Qingde's inauguration ceremony. At the same time, Jiang Qichen said that the president and vice president of the Legislative Yuan were invited to attend, and he would attend in his capacity as vice president.
With Lu Xiuyan and Jiang Qichen's public statement, attending Lai Qingde's inauguration ceremony is equivalent to supporting the DPP authorities in disguise, directly breaking down the internal unity of the KMT and dealing a heavy blow to the KMT. With regard to the "Vice President of the Legislative Yuan" Jiang Qichen and Taichung Mayor Lu Hsiu-yan both expressing their participation in the Legislative Yuan, the Kuomintang "Legislative Yuan" caucus reiterated its resolution not to attend Lai Ching-de's 520 inauguration ceremony.
Hong Mengkai, secretary general of the Kuomintang Caucus, stressed that the decision of the Kuomintang caucus is a consensus, but the decision of any individual Kuomintang member who is not a party caucus is respected. Among the mayors of Taiwan's "six capitals" (Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Tainan), it was confirmed that the participation included Kuomintang Taichung Mayor Lu Xiuyan and Democratic Progressive Party Tainan Mayor Huang Weizhe attending, but Lu Xiuyan and Jiang Qichen relented, which was very likely to be very unfavorable to the Kuomintang.
Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Qimai of the Democratic Progressive Party has not yet made a final statement on whether to attend, but Taipei Mayor Jiang Wanan's latest statement is also relieved, saying whether he will participate in the municipal itinerary can be adjusted, and if he can, he will attend. At the same time, Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun revealed that he had received an invitation, but there was still no positive response to whether he would attend.
The remaining week or so will be a critical moment to test the unity within the Kuomintang. As for Lu Xiuyan and Jiang Qichen setting a bad example, they are thinking about their personal future and ignoring the unity within the KMT, but Lu Xiuyan has always wavered, and Lu Xiuyan was present at Tsai Ing-wen's re-election inauguration ceremony four years ago. Now that Lai Qingde is inaugurating, Lu Xiuyan will also be present, which is definitely not good news for the Kuomintang.
