The Mercedes-AMG CLE63 will use the familiar twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine with mild hybrid assistance and up to 585 horsepower, according to the brand's official officials. If that's the case, it will make nearly 100 horsepower less than originally planned. At the moment, it is unclear whether the car is considering a plug-in hybrid system, but from the released spy photos of the new car, it can be seen that the test vehicle has a charging port.
As such, switching to the V8 may have been a late-stage development decision in response to the frustration with the high-output four-cylinder engine. In terms of sales, the overall sales of Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedans in Europe have slowed down; In the U.S. market, Mercedes-Benz C-Class sales fell slightly in the first quarter of 2024, down 3% compared to last year.
