In order to improve the service capacity of Nantong's high-quality medical resources and solve the current situation of traffic congestion and space constraints in the West Hospital (old hospital), with the strong support of the provincial and municipal Party committees, governments, provincial and municipal health commissions, Nantong University, relevant departments and all walks of life, the hospital started the construction of the East Hospital in May 2020, the first phase of the main project was capped in November 2021, and the first phase of the project was completed and accepted in April 2024.
The East Campus is located at No. 688, Qingnian East Road, Nantong City, with the surrounding municipal infrastructure basically in place, with Metro Line 2 directly reaching the campus, on the same subway line as the West Campus, and adjacent to Nantong New Airport, East Railway Station, Coastal Expressway and Tongsheng Avenue Elevated Entrances and Exits. The East Hospital covers a total area of 281 acres, with a total construction area of 566,000 square meters, and will be completed in two phases. The first phase of the project, which will be put into trial operation, includes outpatient clinics, emergency departments, medical technology departments and a 2,500-bed inpatient building.
Shi Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Affiliated Hospital of Nantong University, introduced that the trial operation of the East Hospital is divided into three stages: the first stage is the start of outpatient operation, and the trial operation of two wards is opened at the same time; In the second phase, the emergency department will be put into operation, and the inpatient departments related to the emergency department will be opened at the same time; The third stage is the full operation of the East Campus, and the entire trial operation phase will take about a month.
In the trial operation stage, the first batch of 24 specialties, including the Department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, a national key clinical specialty, will be stationed in the East Campus of the Affiliated Hospital of Tongda University, and a group of star experts in the hearts of the people will serve as the head of the diagnosis and treatment team. Adhering to the concept of "patient-centered, disease-oriented", the East Campus brings together the outpatient and ward wards of gastroenterology, hepatobiliary, pancreatic and spleen surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, respiratory and critical care medicine, thoracic surgery, neurology and neurosurgery, so as to facilitate patients' medical treatment. At the same time, based on the advanced medical facilities in the East Campus, a new model of medical treatment has been created for the bariatric center, blood transplant center, foot and ankle surgery, and pain department.
