Heilongjiang Province's Sanjiang Plain has a wide area of rice cultivation and excellent quality, accounting for one-ninth of the country's total grain output, and is an important major grain producing area and commercial grain production base on the mainland. Every year in the spring ploughing season, a large number of migrant workers come here to prepare rice and plant seedlings. The rice transplanters work for more than 20 days and can earn nearly 10,000 yuan.
In order to serve the travel of migrant workers, in 2000, Harbin Bureau Group Company opened the first special train for rice transplanting, and in the past 25 years, nearly 1.9 million people have been transported to the Sanjiang Plain to engage in rice transplanting work.
"Before 2000, the square in front of the station was crowded, and the rice planters were carrying dry food and luggage rolls in their hands, just like moving." Zhao Yesheng, the 51-year-old passenger duty director of Suihua Station, participates in the service of the rice planting special train every year, and still remembers the scene vividly.
"In 2015, the station building of Suihua Station was expanded, the passenger capacity increased by 500 people, and the coal-fired green car was upgraded to an air-conditioned car, and then the electronic ticket business was implemented. The improvement of service facilities made Zhao Yesheng full of joy in his words.
Chen Xun, the captain of the K5161 train of the Qiqihar passenger section, participated in the 10-year rice planting special train service work. According to him, the rice planters carried large packages on their backs, steamed buns and pickles, and they were tired when they traveled. Nowadays, many people buy sleepers, order food in the dining car, and dress fashionably, which is a symbol that life is getting better and better. The services on the train have also been upgraded over the years, making it easier for everyone to travel.
In order to provide better services, job fairs have been held on the train for many years, and recruitment information has been posted to facilitate the contact of migrant workers; Invite professional lawyers to get on the bus and hold law classes to popularize labor law; Agricultural technology experts are invited to hold lectures on agricultural knowledge to impart agricultural production knowledge to migrant workers.
This year, themed carriages were set up on the rice planting train, and Red Cross ambulances were organized to explain how to prevent waist sprains and how to deal with sprains on the train. The train also prepares convenient service boxes containing woven bags, power banks, scissors, sewing kits, flashlights and other items, which are provided free of charge for passengers in need.
This year, an estimated 40,000 migrant workers from Suihua, Qiqihar, Jiamusi and the surrounding cities of Harbin will take the train to the Sanjiang Plain to plant rice.
