In the dark, high-speed vehicles are constantly falling into deep pits caused by collapses. At the critical moment, the old man Huang Jiandu climbed over the isolation zone and went backwards to the opposite side of the big pit and knelt down to stop the car, which ended the further expansion of the disaster. Among them, Cai Xuanda was the second car stopped by Huang Jiandu.

Huang Jiandu is a native of Fengshun County, Meizhou City, and usually lives in Shenzhen with his wife. During this year's "May Day" holiday, the old couple planned to visit their father-in-law in Taipo, Meizhou. After dinner on April 30, driven by his son-in-law Rao Yi, Huang Jiandu, his daughter's family of four and his mother-in-law, a total of 7 people, drove to Dapu County, Meizhou City.
When he arrived at the Chayang section of the Meida Expressway, Rao Yi drove in the slow lane, and the other six people in the car were already asleep, perhaps because it was in the slow lane, Rao Yi saw some abnormalities on the road.
Rao: When the headlights shone past, I noticed that the section ahead was a black shadow in the slow lane, occupying a slow lane and an emergency lane. I looked in the rearview mirror and there was no car, so I drove the car into the fast lane. The speed was supposed to be 120 km / h at that time.
Rao: When I changed lanes to the fast lane, I also took a look and found that it was a pit. There is a slight collapse on the fast lane.

In response to her mother-in-law's suggestion, Huang Manqiu started to act with her mother-in-law and her father Huang Jiandu. Getting off the highway in the dark is dangerous enough.

It was very dark and there was no light at all, so we turned on the phone light, turned on the flashlight, and ran that way. We wanted the car to go on a good road, not to be like us again, the whole wheel of the car was broken, and then we saw one car after another falling. Feeling is two words, death. At first, because of the falling cars, maybe they were in different positions, and there was loose dirt underneath, and I felt that it was a very hoarse sound. Later, there were more and more vehicles, and it was the sound of iron pressing iron, a different sound.
At this time, the landslide quickly evolved from a gap of 70 or 80 centimeters into a huge deep pit, and the area of road damage continued to expand. According to the statistics of the relevant local departments, the length of the collapsed pavement reached 17.9 meters, and the total area of the road surface and the mountain below the roadbed was about 184.3 square meters.

In the dark, the family turned on the flashlights of all their mobile phones, stood on this side of the crater, and waved their hands and shouted towards the opposite side of the crater, trying to warn the approaching vehicles. But, one, two, three, the crater of the collapse swallowed up one car after another before their eyes.

Cries for help continued in the pit, smoke began to rise from the burning vehicle, and the family who narrowly escaped the danger kept waving their mobile phones and shouting to stop it, but it didn't seem to work.
Huang Jiandu's daughter Huang Manqiu: At first, there was no smoke, we couldn't see the cars over there, and they fell down one by one, about ten or more than ten cars, my father couldn't help it, he felt that he had to go over there to stop the car.
At this time, the landslide had swallowed all the lanes of the highway on Huang Manqiu's side. If you want to intercept a vehicle on the other side of the pit, you can only climb over the barrier, enter the other side, go against the road to bypass the collapsed crater, and then climb over the barrier.
Huang Jiandu, 64 years old, from Fengshun, Meizhou, Guangdong, used to work as a farmer and did some small businesses. Now I live in Shenzhen with my wife, and my main task is to take my grandchildren to school and buy vegetables and cook for the children.
Huang Jiandu: I felt very uncomfortable, watching the car fall. Generally, during the May Day holiday, a few people have a car, and some are a family, thinking of this, I can't help it, I really can't help it. Seeing so many cars falling and dying, don't think about it, I can't control myself when I think about it. I just wanted to be able to stop the car on the other side of the street, and that was my only hope.
Huang Jiandu's daughter Huang Manqiu: I said Dad, come back quickly, don't go, ask him to come back. He ignored it, he probably heard it and he wouldn't come back.
Huang Jiandu: Because I haven't crossed the middle guardrail, when I got to the front of the lane where the accident occurred, I saw two cars falling down, and I wanted to go a little ahead, which was safer, but I couldn't help it, I saw a car coming in front.
After climbing over the barrier twice, Huang Jiandu finally stood on the side of the collapsed crater closer to the oncoming car. He knew that it was dangerous to stop a car on the highway, and he also knew that if he stopped a car a little far away from the big pothole, it would be relatively less dangerous. However, seeing another car speeding towards him, he could only act faster.
Huang Jiandu: Holding a mobile phone in one hand, "Stop, stop", I just said stop, maybe the car found someone in front of it.

The driver who was stopped was a man in his thirties and forties, and there were five people in the car. The car stopped, giving a more pronounced warning to the cars behind it. When Huang Jiandu stopped the car in the wrong direction, his daughter Huang Manqiu had been communicating with 120 and 122 in various ways. In the meantime, some of the wounded climbed onto the road from deep pits.
Huang Manqiu's son and daughter, one in the first grade and the other in the second year of junior high school, took the initiative to help take care of the injured baby.
On the opposite side of the collapsed crater, rescue efforts are also underway. One of the protagonists of this rescue is Cai Xuanda, who was born in the 00s. He is a 23-year-old e-commerce online salesman who set off from Guangzhou on the evening of April 30 to go back to Zhangzhou, Fujian Province to celebrate his father's birthday. He came to a stop immediately after the first car that was stopped by Huang Jiandu.
Cai Xuanda: When there were still nearly 50 or 60 meters away from the landslide, I turned on the high beam, and I could see that Uncle Huang was stopping me over there at that time, and I felt very anxious. When I got off the bike, my feet started shaking. The instinct must have been to go down to save them, because I didn't think about it that much, and I didn't want to run or anything, but I heard them cry for help, so I went down to save people.
The big crater of the collapse was dark, slippery and steep, and Cai Xuanda and another retired soldier, Liu Yongjin, cooperated with each other and began to rescue the injured at the bottom of the cave-in pit. Among them, the rescue of a young boy about 10 years old was the most difficult.
Cai Xuanda: He actually had a serious injury to his heel and foot. At first, I wanted to hug him, but he said that his leg was very painful, because I had hugged his leg, and then I had to carry it, and my hand touched his waist again, as if there was a big wound, and then I used it on my back, and his hand couldn't use force.
Cai Xuanda: At that time, I was with Liu Yongjin, and he waited for me in the middle of the slope, and I went down to the bottom of the slope first, and then I supported the little boy and gave it to him, and then I climbed on top of him.
Some people stayed to save people, and some people turned around and left, but behind Cai Xuanda and Liu Yongjin, another post-90s generation stood up. Wang Xiangnan, from Puyang, Henan Province, is a truck driver and a retired soldier. In the early morning of May 1, he and his wife were driving a refrigerated truck full of grapes to Quanzhou, Fujian Province, when a vehicle that turned around and was driving in the wrong direction alerted them to something unusual ahead.
Wang Xiangnan: I saw a few cars in a row, and they were coming in the wrong direction, so I quickly stopped there and asked about the situation. He said that the collapse was a landslide, that the bridge was broken, and that there were many cars that had fallen, so he immediately turned the car sideways and hit the steering wheel to the right, and he didn't think much about anything else. I don't see many cars in front of me, maybe two in front.
Wang Xiangnan didn't think much about it, and built a solid safety barrier for the later vehicles, and his refrigerated truck was 12 meters long and lay 200 meters away from the collapse. At that time, when many vehicles coming from the rear saw Wang Xiangnan's car, their first reaction was to honk their horns and signal him to move the car. Wang Xiangnan and his wife explained to them one by one. When these car owners learned the reason, they also joined the queue to explain the situation to the car coming from behind.
Wang Xiangnan: I didn't think about anything at the time, what I thought later was, if there was an accident, it would definitely be my own responsibility.
At around 3 a.m. on May 1, more than a dozen fire trucks and other rescue forces arrived at the scene one after another. Wang Xiangnan turned the head of the car, adjusted the route, and drove back to his delivery destination.
After rescuing four people one after another, Cai Xuanda also changed out of his clothes covered with mud and blood, and disappeared into the night in his car.

On May 10, the Evaluation Committee of Meizhou City, Guangdong Province issued the "Announcement on Confirming the Righteous and Courageous Behavior of 5 People, including Huang Manqiu, Huang Jiandu, Wang Xiangnan, Liu Yongjin, and Cai Xuanda". In response to the collapse disaster on the Chayang section of the Meida Expressway, the Guangdong Provincial Government has set up a disaster investigation and assessment team headed by the provincial governor. At present, the cause of the disaster is being investigated and assessed.
