ON MAY 6, NUBURU, A LEADER IN HIGH-POWER, HIGH-BRIGHTNESS INDUSTRIAL BLUE LASER TECHNOLOGY, ANNOUNCED THAT IT HAS BEEN AWARDED AN $850,000 PHASE TWO CONTRACT BY THE NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND NASA (NASA) TO ADVANCE BLUE LASER POWER DELIVERY TECHNOLOGY AS A UNIQUE SOLUTION THAT DRAMATICALLY REDUCES THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR LUNAR AND MARTIAN APPLICATIONS.

THE AWARD OF THIS CONTRACT BUILDS ON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THE FIRST PHASE OF THE SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION STUDY ("SBIR") PROJECT BY NUBURU IN AUGUST 2023.

NUBURU's blue light power transmission technology revolutionizes power transmission in extreme environments such as the Moon and Mars, making power transmission economical and practical by eliminating the need for bulky copper or aluminum wires.

Not only does this technology support dynamic power distribution in mobile rovers, temporary/permanent camps, and remote habitats, but it also enables a low-size, weight-and-power (SWaP) design through its unique blue laser architecture, complemented by clear visibility-aided navigation, high-efficiency direct diode technology, and advanced direct bandgap solar cell technology to ensure extremely high fly-by-wire efficiency.

This technological solution is directly aligned with the mission objectives of NASA's Artemis program, which aims to return humans to the moon permanently. NASA outlines this need in the Lunar to Mars target in Lunar Infrastructure Goal 1.

In the first phase, NUBURU has fully demonstrated the scientific, technical and commercial viability of its technology. In the second phase, the company plans to further expand the power, range and performance of the blue laser power beam technology, demonstrating it in the range of kilometers at hundreds of watts, and plans to extend the range of the technology to tens of kilometers of the lunar surface with next-generation technology.

Brian Knaley, CEO and Chief Financial Officer of NUBURU, said: "The award of this contract is yet another testament to the innovative and disruptive nature of NUBURU's blue light power transmission technology. We have the potential to revolutionize the power management challenges faced by NASA, other space operators, and many commercial enterprises. Our technology is not only suitable for space environments such as the Moon and Mars, but can also be used in a wide range of terrestrial applications such as remote power solutions, disaster relief operations, and defense logistics. ”

He further added, "NUBURU's high-brightness blue laser technology has a wide range of applications in industrial, medical, defense, as well as electric vehicles, consumer electronics, aerospace, healthcare and other fields. We look forward to revolutionizing all walks of life through this technology." ”

NASA's SBIR program is designed to provide financial support for innovative technologies with commercial potential, ultimately advancing the commercialization and deployment of these technologies through three phases of research, development, and demonstration. The second phase of the contract awarded by NUBURU is a key step in the commercialization of blue laser power beam technology.

WHAT'S SO SPECIAL ABOUT NUBURU'S BLUE LASER? Alloy metals such as copper, stainless steel, and aluminum are known to reflect a large portion of the energy from infrared waves and other colors of light. As a result, the use of conventional lasers may result in poor print quality, as well as lower print speeds because the energy is not absorbed efficiently.
