Yesterday, Friday (May 10), there was a free practice session (FP1) and a qualifying preliminary (PR) session at the MotoGP class. In the morning FP1, the two drivers set the sixth and ninth fastest laps of the race.
In the afternoon's PR, the riders were faced with the yellow flags that had come out of the blue, and the two riders of the Gisney MotoGP team were no exception. While trying to set a faster lap, Marcus crashed at the end of the PR and could only finish in 13th place in the PR based on his best lap time of 1:31.067 set in the first few laps of the crash. Queens Jr., on the other hand, set a best lap time of 1:31.53 and finished 19th in the PR. Both drivers needed to run Q1 to get a better starting position.
After Friday's race session, Marcus said, "In the afternoon, my car wasn't as comfortable as it was in the setup, and we needed to react quickly. I really don't like running Q1, it's going to be a key but complicated part. Unfortunately, I ran into a yellow flag while trying to refresh a fast lap and then made a mistake at the last minute (while crashing). We're (seemingly) going in the wrong direction in terms of setup, so there's a lot of work to be done tomorrow if we're going to be competitive. ”
"I only tried to refresh the lap time once, and I also tried some tweaks to the settings, and we did well in the morning, but in the afternoon it didn't go so well, and I had an idea that we needed to take a step back [in the car setup] and I thought it might help, but it wasn't.
