But! This (disgusting) experience not only caused distress to the author, but also seriously affected the magazine's reputation and the author's trust in the editorial office. The scammer first sends an email to the author of the recently published article (whose email address is fake, such as [email protected], whether you are a work, a corresponding author or another author, as long as you leave an email message, you may be targeted by the scammer), claiming to send the final PDF version of the article and the search report to the author, but you need to add the scammer's WeChat.
Since the scam coincided with the publication time of the magazine, it was inevitable that the author would add WeChat without thinking. The subsequent WeChat conversation is as follows:
Since the author deleted the scammer's WeChat immediately after consulting the editorial department, the follow-up routine of the scammer cannot be tested for the time being. But it is not difficult to imagine that most of them are defrauded of money in the name of "page fees".
