Electric vehicle fire accidents are frequent

The fire started only in the blink of an eye

Let's watch a set of experiments together

Learn how terrible an electric car fire can be

01 Experimental setup

The experiment was conducted in a laboratory in a multi-storey building, and the spread of the fire was reproduced in a real state.

The laboratory has five floors, and an electric bicycle is set up on the first floor to simulate its thermal runaway and cause a fire. Foam boards are set up on the 1st, 3rd and 5th floors to detect temperature and toxic gases on site.

02Experiment begins

After the start of the experiment, the e-bike battery continued to heat up for the first 16 minutes, and it could catch fire at any time.

03 Electric bikes are starting to heat up

An open flame appeared at 16 minutes and 23 seconds, white smoke came out 10 seconds after the fire, and black smoke came out 50 seconds later, and the firefighters at the scene used a handheld thermal imager to detect that the temperature above the body exceeded 650 degrees Celsius. One minute after the fire, the body burned violently and the battery continued to explode.

A chimney effect is formed at the scene, and the smoke spreads upward. Seventy seconds after the fire, the upper space of the atrium quickly filled with smoke and gathered heat at the top, and the scorching smoke ignited the foam on the 5th floor.

According to the on-site harmful gas detector, the harmful gas quickly accumulates and reaches its peak.

04 Experimental effect

The experiment showed the characteristics of rapid fire starting, large smoke production and rapid heating of electric bicycles.

It can be seen through the above experiments

The e-bike caught fire quickly

The battery is explosive

That's why it's been emphasized
