Founded in 1957 at Baishiqiao Road, Haidian District, Beijing, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences is a state-level comprehensive agricultural research institution.
There is a store selling rapeseed on the street at the north gate of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and my wife and I go there every year to buy some. The rapeseed brand here is good, the seedling emergence rate is high, but the price is more expensive.
On the morning of May 2, we went by car, but we didn't expect the store department to be closed for rest during the holiday. When we were helpless, an old gentleman told us that there was a flower market in the compound of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, with flower seeds, rapeseeds, flower seedlings, and vegetable seedlings.
I am no stranger to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, after the completion and opening of Metro Line 1 in September 1969, the Seventh Company of our regiment moved from Yuquan Road to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
In order to participate in the theatrical performances held in the division, after the regimental propaganda team was formed, it was also stationed at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences. At this time, it was no longer the time for me to write about my memories of Yuquan Road, and there were more female soldiers, and the regiment leaders also transferred a few female soldiers who had just joined the health team to the propaganda team.
In order to strengthen the leadership and management of the propaganda team, Deputy Instructor Tang of the repair company was transferred to be the team leader. Deputy Instructor Tang is talented, can manage, and has a little bit (there are a few shallow pockmarks on his face). The leader also asked me to write a program for the propaganda team from the political work group of the subway construction site to the Academy of Agricultural Sciences.
At that time, the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, like other colleges and universities and scientific research units, was in a state of stagnation, and except for a few personnel on duty, the entire compound was deserted.
The propaganda team arranged a program that reflected the railroad soldiers' braving enemy planes to bomb and rush to repair railway bridges during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea. In order to set off the atmosphere, I went to the "China Agricultural Film Studio" of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences to find a video of enemy plane bombing, which improved the performance effect.
The Academy of Agricultural Sciences also had a large area of scientific research and experimental fields, which were also in a barren state at that time. The leaders of the regiment came forward to negotiate with the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the Academy of Agricultural Sciences temporarily lent the land to the troops to engage in agricultural and sideline production. Our company was also allocated a piece of land to raise pigs and grow vegetables.
The experimental fields were fertile, easy to water, and the vegetables grown very well, which not only saved the company's food expenses, but also improved its livelihood.
This is the current north gate of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, on the left is the big sign of "Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences", and on the right is the sign of "Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences". It's really not what it used to be.
It is reported that the Academy of Agricultural Sciences now has 10 functional departments and 46 scientific research units. There are more than 5,000 scientific researchers and more than 5,000 graduate students.
Walking into the north gate of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences, you immediately find a scientific research achievement. The large willow trees on the side of the road are so leafy that you can't see a single catkins.
It turns out that each willow tree is injected with a drug that inhibits the growth of catkins, and this method has been widely used with good results.
In the past, around May Day, catkins flew all over the sky, and in the streets and alleys, you could see clumps of catkins rolling like snowballs everywhere. People wearing masks, face shields, scarves, and glasses could not stop the invasion of catkins. Now, this white pollution, which affects people's health and the environment, has been basically solved.
Entering the compound, all kinds of research institutes, professional companies, and experimental plants are one by one, a thriving scene!
It was an eye-opener to take a turn at the flower market of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences. May our country be more prosperous, prosperous and strong. The lives of ordinary people are prosperous and happy!

Liu Jiashen, male, was born in March 1944 and is originally from Gaocheng County, Hebei Province. He joined the army in March 1965 and is a member of the Communist Party of China and a senior political worker. He has worked in the railway corps and infrastructure engineering corps for 18 years, and has served as the head of the regiment's film team, propaganda officer, political instructor of the company, and a full-time officer of the Organization Department of the Political Department of the Beijing Headquarters.
On July 1, 1983, he was transferred to the army and served as the chairman of the trade union and the secretary of the party committee in the enterprises affiliated to Beijing Urban Construction Group.
After his retirement, he studied Chinese painting at the Institute of Chinese Culture with Professor Wang Zhongnian and Professor Xu Zhan, and his works have participated in many national and Beijing exhibitions and won awards.
