Convenient and transit-based high-speed rail life

As the first direct high-speed rail line between Guangxi and Guangzhou, the Nanguang high-speed railway is one of the busiest passenger railways in Guangxi. "From 2014 to 2023, the number of passengers sent by the Guangxi section of the Nanguang high-speed railway increased from 3.6803 million to 27.2048 million, an increase of more than 7 times." Xia Shiyu, deputy director of Nanning East Station of China Railway Nanning Bureau Group, told reporters.

On December 26, 2014, after the opening of the Nanguang high-speed railway, the time and space distance between the two regions and provinces of Guangxi and Guangdong was greatly reduced, and the two cities of Nanning and Guangzhou were pulled into the "three-hour high-speed rail traffic circle", and since then the two places have more intersections.

"With high-speed rail, I go home more often a year." Feng Tiande, a villager of Shatian Village, Tangbu Town, Tengxian County, Wuzhou City, told reporters that he worked in Foshan City, Guangdong Province all the year round, and before the opening of the Nanguang high-speed railway, he was a member of the "motorcycle army" during the Spring Festival, and he rode a motorcycle back to his hometown for more than 10 consecutive years.

Wuzhou is located at the junction of Guangxi and Guangdong, and is a necessary place for Guangxi migrant workers to go to the Pearl River Delta. According to data from the Wuzhou transportation department, in 2013, before the opening of the Nanguang high-speed railway, the number of "motorcycle army" was as high as more than 250,000, and after 2014, it has decreased year by year, and by 2024, there are very few motorcycles crossing the Spring Festival.

Today, migrant workers from Guangxi's major labor-exporting counties and cities, such as Guigang, Guiping, Pingnan, and Tengxian, can reach Guangzhou, Foshan, Shenzhen and other major cities in the Pearl River Delta in two or three hours by taking the Nanguang high-speed railway.

At the end of 2019, 166 EMU trains were running every day, which is equivalent to 5.5 EMUs running every half an hour during the effective travel time from 7 a.m. to 21 p.m. every day, realizing the "bus-oriented" operation of EMUs. In the Spring Festival in 2024, the average daily number of trains operating on the Nanguang high-speed railway will increase to 210.

The high-speed rail is galloping, and the cold comes and goes. In the past ten years, the disappearance of the "motorcycle army" reflects the changes in travel and the progress of society.

Development of water-rail multimodal transport

On April 23, the reporter walked into Guigang Port, the wharf was busy, and the huge gantry crane rose and fell, loading containers onto the ships docked at the berth.

"In the past, it took about 10 days for the goods to be transported from Panzhihua in Sichuan to Guigang Wharf in Guangxi Province by the Lizhan line, but now it only takes 3 days at the earliest, and the timeliness of cargo transportation has been greatly improved." Huang Chonggui, deputy general manager of Guangxi Guigang Beigang International Container Terminal Co., Ltd., said that after the opening of the Nanguang high-speed railway, it has undertaken a large number of passenger tasks, reducing the pressure on the Lizhan line, enabling the Lizhan line to concentrate resources to optimize the marshalling and scheduling of freight trains and improve transportation efficiency.

In the first quarter of this year, the rail-water intermodal transport of the Guigang Railway Freight Business Department completed the delivery of 270,000 tons, accounting for about 80% of the multimodal transport volume of Guigang Port.

Railway transportation is seamlessly connected with inland waterway shipping in the Xijiang Golden Waterway, and Guigang, Wuzhou and other places can integrate waterway and railway resources more efficiently, carry out multimodal transport business, expand the scope of logistics service capabilities, and drive the continuous growth of freight volume.

"On October 18, 2016, the Chishui Railway Special Line was officially opened, connecting the wharf of the Chishui Port operation area, and the Xijiang Golden Waterway and the Luozhan Railway achieved seamless connection." Wei Xiaoming, general manager of Guangxi Xijiang Lingang Chishui Port Co., Ltd. of Guangxi Beibu Gulf International Port Group, told reporters that the Chishui railway line provides an efficient and convenient channel for the transportation of goods between Guangxi and Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, southwest and central and southern places. In 2023, the traffic volume of the Chishui Railway Special Line will complete 3.4 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 118%, and the traffic volume will reach a record high.

With the help of the Nanguang high-speed railway, Guigang, Wuzhou and other cities along the route are building a modern logistics system for water-rail multimodal transport, providing a strong transportation boost for the construction of the Xijiang Economic Belt and regional economic development.

Opportunity to undertake more industries

Guigang and Wuzhou seize the opportunity to continue to optimize the business environment, and strive to be the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area transportation and logistics linkage, industrial development radiation location, scientific and technological innovation continuity place, resource element influence place, ecological environment conservation place.

The reporter saw in the Tongsheng Textile Workshop in the Textile and Garment Fashion New Area of China (Guigang) that the looms were busy and the finished textile products were stacked in the warehouse. "We came from Foshan, Guangdong Province, because of the convenient high-speed rail line and the environment of the park." Xu Bing, the relevant person in charge of Guangxi Tongsheng Textile Co., Ltd., told reporters that the park is only a few minutes away from the high-speed rail station, and it is very convenient for corporate customers to come from Guangdong to inspect and negotiate.

The first phase of Tongsheng Textile started construction in March 2021 and was completed and put into operation in June 2022, with a total investment of 150 million yuan, more than 130 employees, 60 looms, 30 dyeing vats, and a daily production capacity of 50,000 meters of finished cloth.

Chen Hongxiang, deputy director of Pingnan County Textile and Garment Industry Development Center, introduced that the Nanguang high-speed rail allows Pingnan to integrate into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area "2-hour high-speed rail economic circle" and help the local area to undertake the "east-west movement", at present, Pingnan has signed a contract to introduce 259 textile and garment projects such as World Textile Group and Guannan Group, with a contract investment of 34.5 billion yuan.

Also because of the superior geographical location and transportation conditions, Wuzhou Lingang Economic Zone has become an investment destination for enterprises in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Jianyi Ceramics Co., Ltd. is one of them. In the tall production workshop of Jianyi ceramics, the reporter can hardly see the workers, and the tiles are transferred off the line through the 1,000-meter-long automatic production line.

Chen Langyi, the manager of Jianyi ceramics, said that the management talents of the ceramic industry are very important, and the Nanguang high-speed railway solves the problem of traveling between Guizhou and Guangdong, and also "retains" talents for the development of enterprises in other places.

It is understood that with the blessing of various favorable policies, the gross domestic product (GDP) of districts and cities along the Nanguang high-speed railway, represented by Guigang and Wuzhou, has achieved "nine consecutive increases" since 2014, jumping from 73.327 billion yuan and 67.580 billion yuan in 2014 to 157.349 billion yuan and 149.077 billion yuan in 2023.

The Nanguang high-speed railway passes through 7 cities in Guangzhou, Guangzhou, Guangzhou, and Guangzhou, which not only changes the travel mode and life of the people along the line, but also injects new momentum into the regional economic and social development along the line, promotes Guangxi's comprehensive connection with the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, effectively promotes the flow of factors, technology transfer and industrial cooperation between the two places, and releases the vitality of economic development along the line.
