On May 7, 2024, Shanghai Jinmai Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. ("Jinmai") launched another masterpiece in the field of intelligent cockpits: intelligent electronic exterior mirror (CMS) solution. This solution replaces the traditional exterior mirror of the car with "high-definition camera outside the car + electronic screen in the car", which fundamentally solves the pain points of the traditional physical mirror, such as large wind resistance and blind spots, poor vision at night and rainy and snowy weather, and brings a new intelligent cockpit experience to help safe driving.

With the development of the times and the progress of science and technology, whether it is technology-driven smart life or user needs to guide technological change, creating an intelligent cockpit that combines the advantages of unbounded interaction, immersive experience, and design aesthetics is becoming the focus of current automotive innovation. The exterior rearview mirror of the car, known as the driver's "third eye", has also accelerated its transformation towards scientific and technological aesthetics under this wave of intelligence, and the CMS (Camera Monitor System) solution of Jinmai came into being.

The solution is based on the new national standard GB15084-2022 "Performance and Installation Requirements for Indirect Vision Devices for Motor Vehicles", which is composed of three parts: high-definition camera, control system and display, and is a cost-effective platform-based system-level solution. When the vehicle is running, the CMS camera installed outside the vehicle processes the image through multiple algorithms and transmits it to the high-definition display in the cockpit in real time for the driver to perceive and judge the surrounding environment of the vehicle. The solution has the advantages of better imaging, lower latency, larger range, anti-strong glare, etc., and the image imaging is still clear and smooth even in extreme environments such as rain, snow, fog, and darkness, which can be described as the "strongest assist" for safe driving!

Different from the traditional CMS of "1 controller + 2 cameras + 2 electronic screens", KingPulse adopts the technical route and structure of "(1 controller + 1 camera + 1 electronic screen) × 2". The control end of the former is the coaxial transmission of the serializer to drive the screen display on both sides, and an additional adapter board needs to be added behind the screen, but in most cases, the screen supplier does not provide this supporting service and service, and the vehicle manufacturer or controller supplier must add an additional deserializer chip and interface design, thereby increasing unnecessary costs. In the Jinmai CMS solution, the controllers on both sides are independently connected to the camera and the screen, so that the left and right do not affect each other, and the controller is directly installed on the back of the screen, which not only eliminates the need for the adapter board, but also reduces the cost of the serializer and coaxial cable, and the structure is more simplified and the system cost is better.

Replacing the traditional two-sided big-eared exterior mirrors with two 2M@60fps high-definition cameras, the "body" of the Golden Pulse solution is small, with a volume of only about 1/3 of the traditional rearview mirror or even smaller, which is more in line with the aerodynamic principle to reduce wind resistance, thereby further reducing wind noise. The cabin is equipped with two 1280×720@60fps high-definition displays to ensure high-quality output. Image processing microcontrollers (MCUs) based on Infineon Cypress with two Arm Cortex-M7 cores up to 320 MHz with best-in-class ASIL-B safety performance. Built with a new graphics engine with its new Smart Rendering technology, it reduces the memory required for graphics processing by 3 to 5 times. The innovative "line cache processing technology" requires only 10% of the cache size of traditional frame buffer solutions compared to similar devices on the market, thereby reducing power consumption, memory requirements, and BOM costs.

The average delay of the overall scheme is less than 40ms, and the power-on start-up time is less than 2 seconds, and the performance indicators are far better than the national standard and the industry average. Support screen automatic and touch zoom, field of view movement, color brightness and other adjustment functions; An optional serializer can bypass the image data to other domain controller systems, which can realize the expansion of AI functions, and intelligently identify and warn people, vehicles, obstacles, lane lines, etc.; Support subsequent OTA upgrades, which can further expand application capabilities. The field of view follow-up function can effectively expand the field of view, and when turning, the field of view range in the corresponding direction will be automatically expanded; When reversing, the field of view under both sides is expanded at the same time to reduce the blind spot and obtain a wider field of view than with conventional mirrors.

Based on the triple coordinate system of camera position, car body and camera imaging, the self-developed digital-analog field of view verification system is used to best integrate and calibrate the viewing angle, installation position and human vision principle, etc., and the system involves a large number of parameters and engineering-level development calculations to ensure that the background parameters can be dynamically adjusted and output in real time, and at the same time, it is equipped with multiple optimization algorithms, such as fog penetration, anti-flicker, and strong light suppression, to obtain the best imaging and scene vision. The world's advanced hardware configuration, mature and reliable application system, and powerful and rich functional support can greatly shorten the development and verification cycle of OEMs and suppliers.
