According to Thai media news, recently, Mr. Charron, chairman of the Thai Rice Export Association, revealed that Thailand's rice exports from January to March 2024 were 2,464,585 tons, with a total value of 56.73 billion baht, an increase of 19.4% and 49% respectively over the same period last year.
Among them, in March alone, it was found that Thailand exported 716,619 tons of rice, worth 17.329 billion baht, which was 10.4% and 6.5% lower than the export volume of 800,225 tons and the export value of 18.531 billion baht in February this year, respectively. In addition, exports of white rice were unchanged from the previous month at 479,866 tonnes, parboiled rice exports decreased by 5.2% from the previous month, and jasmine rice exports were 109,448 tonnes, down 4.3% from the previous month.
Despite this, Thailand is expected to export 800,000 tonnes of rice, especially white rice, in April, mainly to Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Japan, and major markets in the Middle East and Africa region. Imports of jasmine rice continue to be in key markets such as the United States, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore and Europe, and the depreciation of the Thai baht has also helped Thai rice to remain competitive.
In any case, in the first three months of this year, India remained the world's largest rice exporter, with 4.3 million tonnes, down 28.1 percent, followed by Thailand with 2.46 million tonnes, up 19.4 per cent, followed by Vietnam with 2.18 million tonnes and Pakistan with 1.98 million tonnes.
