"Illustrated Guide to New Occupations in the Past 30 Years of the Internet" was released: a live broadcast room with goods connects more than 30 new occupations

author:China Development Network

In 1994, a 64kbit/s international dedicated line allowed China to access the Internet with full functionality. At that time, people may not have thought that a small network cable not only lights up a screen, but also leaves a foreshadowing to open the tide of technology in the new era.

Thirty years later, China has built the world's largest and most technologically advanced network infrastructure. The flickering cursor promotes the extension and coupling between industries, and more new spaces and new possibilities make new occupations bloom everywhere, bringing new growth poles to social and economic life.

With the advancement of China's high-quality economic development, new forms of Internet business have promoted the rapid germination of new occupations, and more employment options have also built a stage for more people to shine in life. On this year's May Day, Kuaishou Big Data Research Institute sorted out the changes in the occupational ecology of China's Internet development in the past 30 years, and released the "Internet New Occupation Atlas in the Past 30 Years", revealing a vivid picture of the close and coordinated development of new Internet occupations and the joint creation of social and economic value.

A small screen breeds a variety of new professions

According to the "Illustrated Guide to New Occupations in the Past 30 Years of the Internet", the 30 years of vigorous development of the Internet in China have also been 30 years of rapid evolution and rapid growth of China's occupational classification. During this period, not only were new occupations closely related to computers and information technology born, such as digital technology engineering and technical personnel, but also a considerable number of traditional occupations gained new vitality in the wave of digital transformation, shaping a new professional ecology in one side of the screen.

In Siping, Jilin Province, Deng Yan, the anchor of Kuaishou Sannong, met with 660,000 fans almost every day in the form of short videos and live broadcasts to convey agricultural technology knowledge.

Once, Deng Yan was also an ordinary "North Drifter". But in 2013, a phone call from her family changed her mind, and she decided to return to Siping to use the agricultural technology she learned at university to help farmers who generally lack scientific planting guidance to increase their incomes.

Since 2018, Deng Yan, who has been serving the surrounding townships in the form of physical stores for several years, has begun to help more farmers in other towns in the form of short videos. As a senior agronomist, her live broadcast not only focuses on the corn field, but also selects topics according to agronomic nodes, covering the whole process from sowing to harvesting. She said, "Farmers can see through Kuaishou that I not only promote agricultural technology and sell agricultural materials, but also visit farmers every summer to verify the effectiveness of technology and products."

A new agricultural technician who could influence hundreds of thousands of farmers through the Internet was hard to imagine in an era when digital technology was not widespread. In the past, the profession of agricultural technicians was inseparable from a large number of field investigations, often using the most primitive way to collect and organize information, but now, the Internet has also changed their professional attributes, helping them analyze data more efficiently, more accurately convey agricultural technology knowledge, and serve more farmers.

In the 30 years since the Internet entered China, life has changed dramatically. About 30 years ago, billboards reading "How far are the Chinese from the information superhighway?" stood in Zhongguancun, Beijing. This impressive billboard proclaims China's vision of embracing the Internet. Perhaps no one would have imagined that today we are all on this highway, or even in the entire "metaverse".

At present, the number of Internet users in mainland China has exceeded 1 billion, and the market value of Internet companies is nearly 10 trillion yuan...... The integration of the Internet into all fields of social development has not only become a strong engine for China's economy, but also laid a strong foundation for the earth-shaking transformation of social life in the future.

With the popularization and innovation of the mobile Internet, the emergence of new economy, new services and new needs has not only opened up new areas of employment, effectively played the unique effect of various service platforms directly and indirectly driving employment, but also brought about the refinement of the division of labor and the replacement of old and new occupations.

A "new", open a colorful new life

"For every 10 employees, there are two new occupations. ”

A previous report released by the Chinese Academy of Human Sciences gave the above figures. When the "economy" meets the "Internet", employment opportunities, employment groups and even employment ecology are quietly changing.

Less than two years ago, the "Occupational Classification Dictionary of the People's Republic of China (2022 Edition)" marked digital occupations (marked with "S") for the first time, with a total of 97, such as digital media art professionals, e-commerce professionals, Internet marketers, etc. More and more new forms of employment have gradually evolved into new occupations with clear standards and clear tasks, constantly meeting the needs of a more personalized, diversified and refined life.

For example, the short video live broadcast ecosystem represented by Kuaishou promotes the video-based transformation of traditional occupations and the development of new digital careers, driving inclusive employment and entrepreneurship. It is understood that the Kuaishou platform has nurtured and spawned 174 new occupations, absorbing and creating more than 40.22 million jobs in total, and more than eighty percent of traditional occupations have started video transformation, reflecting the latest direction and trend of career evolution and economic development.

"Employment in the short video live broadcast ecosystem conforms to the new trend of digital transformation and green development, and also meets the new requirements of rational distribution of human resources and high-quality economic development, and has become a typical practice of platform economy to promote employment. Fan Wei, director and researcher of the Enterprise Human Resources Research Office of the Chinese Academy of Human Sciences, said.

A period of "network affairs" to promote new development of quality and efficiency

Employment is the foundation of people's livelihood and development. Its significance lies not only in providing opportunities and guarantees for thousands of households to survive, but also in providing a huge talent and ecological foundation for industrial upgrading and economic development.

Just like behind a live broadcast screen, it is the fans and the anchors who are connected, as well as the consumers and the merchants in the industrial chain. A live broadcast anchor on the Kuaishou platform said that he has an account with more than 600,000 fans and started broadcasting in a live broadcast room of more than ten square meters. Behind the scenes of this small live broadcast room, there are more than 30 new occupations spawned by the Internet, but the garment industry chain behind it can solve the employment problems of three large factories and more than 10 small factories, adding up to thousands of people. Through the close cooperation of new Internet occupations such as front-end anchors, back-end product selection and operation, and after-sales service personnel, a small screen connects the two-way development of the digital economy and the real economy.

"More and more new youth groups are working and starting businesses through short video live streaming platforms, and constantly expanding their career paths. Ouyang Rihui, vice president, professor and doctoral supervisor of the China Internet Economy Research Institute of the Central University of Finance and Economics, said that digital technology, industrial digital upgrading and new career ecology are a closed loop, and the creation of a new career ecology by the short video live broadcast platform has opened up a key link from digital technology to industrial digitalization, which is conducive to promoting industrial upgrading into the deep water area.

In the past 30 years, China's "Internet affairs" have been vividly remembered, and China's Internet has not only been completely integrated into people's lives and work, but also given people the space and strength to open up more bold imagination. The big world connected by a small screen will also extend to a wider distance.
