Previously, from the 2003-2004 season to the 2012-2013 season, the CBA continued to invite high-level foreign referees to China through FIBA, but at that time, they were basically high-level referees in Europe, and no Asian foreign referees were invited to referee the CBA. According to relevant media, it was Yao Ming who advocated inviting foreign referees to coach the semifinals and finals to ensure fairness and justice, and also improve the coaching level of local referees.

In last year's Basketball World Cup, not a single Chinese referee enforced the law, and FIBA claimed that Chinese referees need to improve their law enforcement level!
