In the forest, how can I not sing

Chen Dahua

Until now, I don't know what the name of the ravine is in the mountain behind the headquarters of a brigade of the current garrison in Milin, Tibet. I only remember that there was a large area of primeval forest in that ravine, which was the logging site of the wooden poles of the communication company of our Nyingchi Military Sub-district (before the 70s and 80s, wooden poles were used for the overhead lines of Tibet's communications).

In order to harvest communication wood poles, I went into the primeval forest of Mirin twice...

Before the 70s and 80s, the ravine was originally a low-bushed, uninhabited wasteland (now the Nyingchi Airport has been built nearby), and the road from Milin County to the Yarlung Zangbo River Grand Canyon in Pai District passed through it. Our communications company has a state maintenance post nearby. Therefore, the Bangzhong maintenance post has also become a stacking and turnover yard for us to collect wooden poles.

In the winter of 1980, I was ordered to participate in the company's mission of transporting wooden poles into the mountains to return to the state to maintain the outpost, and I entered the primeval forest twice. The maintenance post in the state where we are stationed is estimated to be five or six kilometers away from that pristine forest.

After breakfast, we took the old-fashioned Jiefang brand open-top truck driven by Zhao Chuantian (a soldier from Daxian County, Sichuan Province in 1975), stood on the carriage, braved the cold wind (fortunately, the speed was very slow), and walked along the rugged and bumpy Maoji Road, which could only accommodate one car in one direction, and entered the primeval forest wood pole felling and dumping site.

The day's transshipment work began, and everyone loaded the wooden poles one by one and transported them back to the outpost, several times a day.

While waiting for the vehicle to go back and forth, there was nothing to do. Curiosity drove me to look deep in the primeval forest.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, I walked alone into the deep forest. The air in the forest was fresh, there was a centimeter or two of snow on the ground, and there was a small stream that was almost stationary, very shallow and not wide, except for the occasional wind blowing the towering trees, and the sound of air currents produced by the treetops colliding with each other (this sound was very beautiful), there was no noise and dust, and it was very quiet. That kind of silence made me feel more and more frightened and empty the deeper I walked alone.

In the primeval forest, the beautiful scenery of the mountains, the water and the wood, I was born to love singing, and I couldn't help but (subconsciously also have a bit of courage) and roared, "Through the forest and sea, across the snowfield, angry and ......"

Afraid of getting lost, afraid to move on. In addition, the task was in place, and the transport truck was about to return, so I returned to my comrades at the construction site in time.

Alas...... It's a pity!

I didn't come to the forest the next day.

Here's what happened: the next day, we went into the mountains and came to the venue. It may have snowed in the mountains last night, and the snow on the ground was a little thicker than it had been a day, and the temperature was cooler.

After getting out of the car, after a little arrangement, I heard the deputy instructor of the team commander Zhang Chuntao (a soldier from Tongliang, Sichuan in 1970), and gave an order: "Brothers, touch it!"

I immediately bent down to pick up the wooden pole, and at the moment of bending, I suddenly experienced a sharp pain in my lower back. I now think that it may be that the temperature was low, I went into the mountains after breakfast, I didn't move beforehand, my muscles stiffened, and I strained my psoas muscles, and it was very uncomfortable to stand upright at that time. I had to take the car back to the station to rest.

Fortunately, a slight strain, young recovery quickly, through a day and a night of rest, as long as you don't do heavy work for two days, in addition to a slight discomfort in your waist, you can still walk.

Due to the heavy task and the lack of manpower, my wounded soldier also had to be on the line, and he could not get out of the line of fire with minor injuries. I was assigned to be responsible for lowering the poles of the Jiefang trucks at the outpost. This work is not complicated and does not require much physical strength, that is, after the car pulls back the wooden pole, in the open space, untie the big rope tied to the car, and then use the big rope bundle to tie the wooden pole at the rear of the car, tie the other end of the rope to the fixed anchor point slightly farther away, and then command the driver to drive the vehicle forward, after the vehicle moves forward, the wooden pole dragged by the big rope will naturally fall, and then pile up after the comrades come back. Round trip to complete the task!
