Wang Yi held talks with Argentine Foreign Minister Mundino
On April 30, 2024, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, held talks with Argentine Foreign Minister Mondino in Beijing.
Wang Yi said that China and Argentina are both important emerging economies and are good friends and partners of each other. China firmly adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries, respects the choices made by the Argentine people, wishes Argentina success in reform, and hopes and believes that Argentina can overcome difficulties and find a path of development and rejuvenation that suits its own national conditions and is supported by the people through active exploration. China is ready to be a long-term and reliable cooperative partner of the Arab side, and work with the Arab side to take the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Arab comprehensive strategic partnership this year as an opportunity to strengthen communication, deepen mutual trust and expand cooperation, jointly grasp the future development direction of China-Arab relations, inject more certainty into the development of bilateral relations and cooperation in various fields, make China-Arab relations more mature and resilient, and open up new prospects for the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Wang Yi said that political mutual trust is a solid foundation for the steady development of China-Arab relations, development and revitalization is the common pursuit of China and Arab countries, and people-to-people friendship is a solid bond for the inheritance of China-Arab friendship. The two sides should continue to cherish and consolidate political mutual trust, understand and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns, continue to build high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, implement existing major projects, advance cooperation in space, aerospace, ocean, Antarctica and other fields, promote the sustained, healthy and balanced development of trade between the two countries, and play a positive role in economic development and social stability in Afghanistan. China has always supported the efforts of the Arab side to maintain economic and financial stability, and is willing to continue to provide assistance to the best of its ability in this regard. It is hoped that the Arab side will provide a good environment for Chinese enterprises to invest in the UAE. The two sides should also deepen people-to-people exchanges at the local, youth, educational, and health levels, so that China-Arab friendship will be more deeply rooted in the hearts of the people of the two countries.
Wang Yi pointed out that China is ready to work with Latin American and Caribbean countries, including Argentina, to promote the building of China-Latin America and the Caribbean relations that are equal, mutually beneficial, innovative, open and beneficial to the people in the new era, and to closely coordinate and cooperate under multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the G20, so as to safeguard the common interests of developing countries and make positive contributions to world peace and development.
Mundino said that China is Argentina's comprehensive strategic partner, and the two countries have carried out good cooperation in a wide range of fields. No matter how the internal political situation of the Arab side changes, the Arab side will not change its policy of being friendly to China. The Azerbaijan side abides by the one-China principle, is ready to maintain close bilateral dialogue and communication with China, and continue to promote cooperation in infrastructure construction, trade, investment, finance, tourism, space, Antarctica, oceans and environmental protection under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative. The economies of Afghanistan and China are highly complementary. The new government of Afghanistan pursues an open-door policy and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Argentina. The Arab side is ready to deepen cooperation with China under the framework of the CELAC-China Forum, and maintain close communication and coordination within multilateral mechanisms such as the United Nations and the G20, so as to promote the in-depth development of CELAC-China relations, safeguard world peace and promote sustainable development.

Wang Yi: China and the Arab States should adhere to the path of mutual support and win-win cooperation

Wang Yi said that in 2008, Madam Foreign Minister was elected as the torchbearer of the Beijing Olympic Games, leaving Argentina's footprints for the success of the Olympic Games. I hope and believe that the Foreign Minister will hold up the torch of friendship between the two peoples and make new contributions to jointly opening up a bright future for China-Arab relations.
Wang Yi said that we held in-depth talks just now, and the most important consensus reached is that no matter what changes occur in the domestic and international situation, the direction of promoting friendship between the two sides should not change, and efforts to deepen cooperation need to be strengthened. This is because this is the common expectation of the two peoples and is in line with the fundamental and long-term interests of the two countries.
Wang Yi pointed out that although China and Arab countries are far apart, since the establishment of diplomatic relations more than half a century ago, the relations between the two countries have achieved leapfrog development from cooperative and strategic partners to comprehensive strategic partners. China has never interfered in the internal affairs of other countries, and we respect the choice of the Argentine people and wish Argentina success in its reforms. I believe that the Argentine people will be able to overcome difficulties and explore a successful development path suited to their own national conditions.
Wang Yi said that looking ahead, China and Arab States should adhere to the path of mutual support and win-win cooperation.
First of all, we need to strengthen mutual trust. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Arab States. We should continue to enrich its connotation and pay attention to the comprehensiveness, strategic, and stability of China-Arab relations. We will continue to firmly support each other on issues involving each other's core interests, such as the Taiwan issue and the Falklands issue, and lay a solid foundation for the two countries to advance practical cooperation in various fields.
Second, it is necessary to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. Both China and Arab countries are at an important stage of development and are committed to realizing the people's aspirations for a better life. The economic structures of the two countries are highly complementary and each other is an important development opportunity for each other. We need to continue to respect each other and treat each other as equals, follow market rules, strive for mutual benefit and win-win results, continue to promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen the synergy of development strategies, share development dividends, and bring tangible benefits to the people of the two countries.
Third, we must insist on independence and self-determination. China-Arab cooperation is in the interests of both sides, and is a mutual assistance between equal partners, which is neither aimed at nor interfered with by any third party. We need to uphold an independent foreign policy, eliminate external interference and noise, and support each other in accelerating development and revitalization.
Fourth, we must persist in unity and cooperation. We will continue to carry out more in-depth exchanges under multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations, the G20 and the WTO, promote overall cooperation between China and Latin America and the Caribbean, and take concrete actions to promote solidarity and cooperation in the "Global South".
Wang Yi said that in the past three days, the foreign ministers of Bolivia, Peru and Argentina have visited China one after another, and China's strategic communication with Latin American and Caribbean countries has been further strengthened. China and Latin America and the Caribbean are both important emerging economies, staunch defenders of the international multilateral system and active builders of world peace and prosperity. In the face of changes in a century, we shoulder a common historical responsibility and will play a greater historical role. China is ready to work closely with Latin America and the Caribbean side to practice true multilateralism, jointly advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world and inclusive economic globalization, promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, and work together to build a better world.
