If you want to talk about the leading figures in the literary trend of the Republic of China, the famous writer Hu Shi should also be counted among them, but unfortunately Hu Shi's second son is not as lucky as Hu Shi, not only has he never married someone in his life, but he ended his life with his own hands at the age of thirty-six. And when he committed suicide, he had no family by his side, and he could be regarded as "a lonely grave for thousands of miles, with nowhere to talk about desolation".
From our current perspective, thirty-six years old is in the best years of a man, so what kind of hardship and unbearable did Hu Sidu, the son of Hu Shi, suffer in his short life to end up so miserable?

Suffering from lung disease and dropping out of school at home
Hu Shi and fellow villager Jiang Dongxiu had three sons, Hu Sidu was the second, and Hu Shi expressed his deep friendship with his mentor Dewey, so he named the second son Sidu. From here, we can also see that Hu Shi also had high hopes for his second son Sidu, hoping that in the future, the child can become a man who stands up to the sky and the earth as he hopes. It's a pity that things backfired, and the second son Sidu was frail and sick since he was a child, and often dropped out of school at home.
After the start of the Anti-Japanese War, Hu Shi rushed to the United States to serve as the ambassador of the Republic of China to the United States, and since then Hu Shi has been separated from his second son. Hu Sidu stayed in China to live with his mother Jiang Dongxiu, but his mother Jiang Dongxiu was addicted to the card table all day long and did not pay much attention to her children's studies. Afraid that the second son would fall behind in his homework, Hu Shi also invited his student Luo Ergang to teach his son's homework.
However, at that time, the second son, Sidu, had greatly abandoned his studies and contracted many bad habits, and it was too late to make amends.
Flying to the U.S. is hard to come by
In 1941, seeing that his second son's studies were difficult to improve, Hu Shih decided to ask someone to bring Hu Sidu to the United States, and let Hu Sidu enter the church school Habefu College to study history. But Hu Shi's hard work did not pay off, Hu Sidu studied in two schools in the United States in a row, but never even got a diploma.
According to Luo Ergang's later recollections, the reason why Hu Sidu failed to graduate was because he had too close contacts with some friends, and he was addicted to eating, drinking and having fun all day long, and wasted a good time. As the saying goes, those who are close to Zhu are red and those who are close to ink are black, and the influence of external factors on a person is huge!
To this day, we can also see a lot of sad reports about young people going astray, and most of the reasons why children go on the wrong path are also because of careless friends. Probably Hu Shi was also sad when he saw his second son like this.

Returning home in a hurry, the prodigal son turned back
In the summer of 1948, Hu Sidu had no choice but to return to China with Hu Shi's friends. After Hu Sidu returned to China, many people looked at Hu Shi's face, although he did not have a graduation certificate in hand, many universities threw olive branches to Hu Sidu, wanting to invite Hu Sidu to teach at the university, but these requests were all blocked by his father Hu Shi because Sidu had not completed his studies and was not a talent for research.
Perhaps disliking the decadent appearance of his second son who had nothing to do, Hu Shi arranged for him to work in the library of Peking University. Perhaps influenced by books, Hu Sidu changed his usual routine and had the posture of reading the books in the library thoroughly.
Being so motivated, Hu Shi also felt a little comforted in his heart, and felt that years of hard work and cultivation could be regarded as a little reward. It seems that all this is slowly moving in the direction that people expected, but under this seemingly calm situation, there is an undercurrent slowly surging.
The situation took a sharp turn and he insisted on staying
In December 1948, when the situation in Beiping was turbulent and the People's Liberation Army soldiers were approaching the city, Hu Shi made a firm choice: to leave the mainland and go to the United States. But at this time, the second son Sidu was unwilling to go to the United States with his parents and insisted on staying in Beiping.
Seeing that his son was so stubborn, Hu Shi had to respect his decision, and his mother Jiang Dongxiu was sad and unwilling to be separated from her flesh and blood, but in the end, she still left Hu Si with some gold and silver, only saying that if her son and other girls looked at each other, I am afraid that these gold and silver softness can also come in handy.
At this time, Hu Shi and his wife never thought that this was the last time they would see their second son. In 1958, Hu Shih and his wife decided to settle in Taiwan and never returned to Beiping for the rest of their lives. And this is the reason why when Hu Sidu committed suicide, his parents were not able to accompany him.
In order to protect himself, he criticized his father
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, Hu Shi became the "enemy of the people" that everyone avoided overnight, and Hu Sidu was implicated, perhaps in order to protect himself, Hu Sidu actually made the feat of "righteous annihilation of relatives", and published an article "Criticism of My Father - Hu Shi" in the newspaper, and sharply reprimanded his father Hu Shi as a "lackey of imperialism" and other vulgar words.
As soon as this article came out, it also caused a lot of shock at home and abroad, naturally even Hu Shi knew about the earth-shattering feat of his second son, perhaps because he was afraid that others would see the joke, Hu Shi seemed to ignore this matter, and just posted the report on this matter in his diary.
It is said that the righteous killing of relatives is a compliment, but under the background of that specific era, it seems to have been cast a shadow, Hu Sidu made this move, and he was afraid that he couldn't bear it, just because of the situation, but after all, it hurt the flesh and blood, Hu Shi was afraid that he couldn't dream of it, and the most ruthless critic of himself was not others, but his youngest son who spent a lot of effort and hoped to achieve something, which is really sad and lamentable.
The impact was so great that the marriage failed
Rao is Hu Si Du unswervingly drew a clear line with his father, but in the eyes of others, you Hu Si Du is still the descendant of the enemy, and you are still despised. This also laid the groundwork for Hu Sidu to never marry anyone in his life. It is rumored that Hu Sidu once had a girlfriend in Guiyang, but for some reason, the two ended up parting ways.
And because of the special identity of Hu Shi's descendants, no one is willing to marry Hu Sidu. Even if it is a blind date, after knowing Hu Sidu's origin, he can only stay away, for fear of being accused by someone with a heart. And this is one of the reasons why Hu Sidu has been lonely and has nothing to rely on all his life.
This is the tragedy of our time, and we cannot stand on the moral high ground to criticize those who keep Hu Sidu out. If you change places, I believe that most people will not be able to really abandon Hu Sidu's unavoidable background and accept him without any guilt.
Hope is shattered, and he commits suicide with hatred
In 1957, another political movement made a comeback, and Hu Sidu, who was in a bad mood, wanted to show his strength in his career, and took advantage of the wave of "Mingfang" to put forward many suggestions on teaching reform to his department, but who knew that before the opinions were adopted, he was severely attacked by the anti-rightist activists at that time, and so far, Hu Sidu was firmly nailed to the label of a rightist.
The cruelty of reality and the inner anger were torn back and forth in Hu Sidu's heart all the time, and he was regarded as a rightist after all, because he could not bear the endless insults and criticisms of others, and finally chose to end his life in despair on the night of September 21, 1957, at the age Chinese New Year's Eve of six, and committed suicide without a wife, children, father and mother, very sad.
We often say that if you lend a helping hand to someone in a desperate situation, then there is a good chance that they will be able to withdraw from this negative emotion. But Hu Sidu did not wait until he died, the hand that could hold him to the abyss.
When he was dying, he did not see his relatives, and because of his origins, the pleasures of the boudoir that others could simply find were as unattainable as the clouds in the sky. Hu Sidu's life can really be regarded as coming and going naked, and he ended up with a tragic ending of being homeless!
